Shuttle buses

(We’ve based this part of the post by reviewing Transit Toronto posts during other closures of this section of Line 1. Information available from TransSee during a previous closure is also a source for this information. TransSee is a web application that provides real-time bus tracking and predicts the location of the next vehicles at a stop. Note that information in this part of the post is unofficial — the TTC may operate buses with an alternate service pattern.)

Southbound buses start their trips eastbound on Lawrence Avenue West beside Lawrence West Station, then proceed:

westward through Lawrence West Station terminal;
westward along Lawrence West;
southward along Marlee Avenue, stopping at Glencairn Avenue for Glencairn Station;
eastward along Eglinton Avenue West;
northward into Cedarvale Station bus terminal;
eastward along Eglinton West;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along St. Clair Avenue West, stopping beside St Clair West Station,
southward along Spadina Road;
westward along Austin Terrace;
southward along Walmer Road and Kendal Avenue;
eastward along Macpherson Avenue;
southward along Spadina Road, stopping at Dupont Street for Dupont Station;
eastward into Spadina Station bus terminal;
southward along Spadina;
eastward along Bloor Street West;
northward along St. George Street to stop beside the east access to and from St George Station,
ending their trips.

The buses then proceed:

northward along St. George;
eastward along Prince Arthur Avenue; and then
southward along Bedford Road to stop beside the west access to and from St George Station.

Northbound buses start their trips on Bedford Road beside the west access to and from St George Station, then proceed:

southward along Bedford;
westward along Bloor Street West;
northward along Spadina Road, stopping beside Spadina Station and at Dupont Street for Dupont Station;
westward along Davenport Road;
northward along Walmer Road;
eastward along Austin Terrace;
northward along Spadina;
westward along St. Clair Avenue West, stopping beside St Clair West Station;
northward along Bathurst Street;
westward along Eglinton Avenue West;
northward into Cedarvale Station bus terminal;
westward along Eglinton West;
northward along Marlee Avenue, stopping at Glencairn Avenue for Glencairn Station;
eastward along Lawrence Avenue West to stop beside Lawrence West Station.

Shuttle-bus alternatives

One way that you can reduce the impact of the closure is by planning ahead, leaving earlier than usually and giving yourself more time to get to where you’re going.

Although shuttle buses replacing subway service will be frequent, they may also be crowded.

Regular TTC buses and streetcars provide less frequent, less direct, but, perhaps, less stressful alternatives.

Consider boarding buses and streetcars at subway stations on the Yonge branch of the subway line, instead of the University branch. If you’re travelling from the west, keep riding your bus or streetcar until you reach a Yonge-branch station, instead of exiting at a University-branch station. This applies not just to the closed section of the subway, but to stations north and south of the closure, so you can avoid the University branch entirely.

North of the closed section of the subway, ride:

• buses along the 60 Steeles West route to Finch Station, instead of Pioneer Village Station.
• buses along the 36 Finch West route to Finch Station, instead of Finch West Station.
• buses along the 84 Sheppard West route to Sheppard - Yonge Station, instead of Sheppard West Station; and
• buses along the 96 Wilson or 165 Weston Rd North routes to York Mills Station, instead of Wilson Station.

At the closed section of the subway, ride:

• buses along the 52 Lawrence West route to Lawrence Station, instead of Lawrence West Station;
• buses along the 14 Glencairn route to Davisville Station, instead of Glencairn Station;
• buses along the 34 Eglinton route to Eglinton Station, instead of Cedarvale Station; and
• streetcars along the 512 St Clair route to St Clair Station, instead of St Clair West Station.

South of the closed section of the subway, ride:

• Line 2 Bloor - Danforth subway trains to Yonge Station, instead of St George Station;
• streetcars along the 506 Carlton route to College Station, instead of Queen’s Park Station;
• streetcars along the 505 Dundas route to TMU Station, instead of St Patrick Station;
• streetcars along the 501 Queen route to the area of Queen Station, instead of Osgoode Station; and
• streetcars along the 504 King route to King Station, instead of St Andrew Station.
