Members of the public will be competing against the pros when they bid on the lost items going on sale at the TTC silent auction next week. The semi-annual lost-article sale features thousands of items left on TTC buses, subways and streetcars. The items will be divided into 48 lots, and buyers must bid on a full lot. Most bidders will be professional flea market operators and garage-sale holders, according to Bill Ketchell, supervisor of the Lost Articles Office, which is located in the Bay Station. In the room full of items is a $700 digital camera and bags of new clothing left behind by absent-minded Christmas shoppers. The items will be on view from May 9 to 11. All bids will be sealed, and opened only after the viewing dates. Mr. Ketchell says about a third of lost items are returned to their rightful owners.
