GO welcomes customers to new Kennedy GO Station in Scarborough on Thursday morning

What:    GO Transit will welcome customers to its new Kennedy GO
         Station with free coffee, pastries, and other goodies. 
         Photo opportunity with Provincial, GO, TTC, and local 
         dignitaries greeting passengers arriving for the 7:57 
         a.m. train.

When:    Thursday, June 2, 2005
         Customer welcome: 6:30 to 9:05 a.m.
         Short ceremony at 7:40 a.m. sharp

Where:   Kennedy GO Station
         Next to the TTC's Kennedy subway station in Scarborough
         South side of Eglinton Ave. E., between Kennedy Rd. and
         Midland Ave.
         Pay parking available in TTC and Mid-Scarborough 
         Community Centre parking lots

Who:     The Hon. Harinder Takhar, Ontario Minister of 
         Peter Smith, Chairman, GO Transit
         Dr. Gordon Chong, Vice-Chairman, GO Transit
         Bas Balkissoon, Commissioner, TTC
         Local councillors and MPPs

Background:  On Thursday, June 2, GO Transit will open its eighth 
         train station on the Stouffville line, increasing the 
         number of stations in the GO Transit network to 56. 
         Kennedy GO Station is between Agincourt GO Station and 
         Union Station and will provide a convenient link to the 
         TTC's Kennedy subway and RT station in Scarborough. The 
         station is still under construction but will be ready for
         passenger service on Thursday morning. The platform and 
         train service will be wheelchair-accessible when the 
         station opens. There will be an accessible connection to 
         the TTC station later this summer, once the elevator is 
         installed. Riders will be able to buy single-ride tickets
         and day passes from a ticket vending machine at the 
         station, or from other GO stations.

         There is no GO parking, but pay parking is available in 
         the TTC's and the adjacent community centre's parking
