Strike? As if the TTC


As if the TTC didn’t have enough problems already, the possibility of a transit strike is quietly being raised. The Commission and its unions are said to be far apart on the bargaining table. The TTC is backed into a corner financially, however. They claim that every 1% wage increase amounts to an additional $6 million in revenues, and the TTC already finds itself $14 million short this year.

Both sides are now meeting under a Ministry of Labour conciliator, who imposed a media blackout. Despite this, some releases like this one are trickling out. The earliest workers can legally strike is April 7th. Let us hope for a breakthrough before then…
