A correction to my August

A correction to my August 5th posting, thanks to Scott Haskill: while it may happen that York Region Transit contracted routes get renumbered into the 200 series, there is no plan to do so, right now.

Yonge Subway Closure September 1st

The Sheppard subway is undergoing its final tests before opening. On September 1st, the TTC will be making a thorough test of the new line’s signalling, including the wye from the Yonge subway. This requires the closure of Finch, North York Centre and Sheppard stations. All trains will turn back at York Mills station from 9 a.m. to noon, when the signal test ends.

During those three hours, routes 39 Finch East, 36 Finch West, 85 Sheppard East, 84 Sheppard West, 53 Steeles East, and 60 Steeles West will be extended south from their Yonge Street termini to York Mills station, operating express and stopping on-street at the subway stations en route. Service will also be increased on the 97 Yonge route, with buses coming every ten minutes.

Three other affected routes, 42 Cummer, 125 Drewry and 98 Willowdale-Senlac, will not be extended to York Mills station. Riders are expected to connect with the extended routes at Finch and Sheppard stations.

Scarborough RT Late Evening Closures

To permit structural rehabilitation, the Scarborough RT will cease operation at midnight on Mondays through Saturdays and at 11pm on Sundays and Holidays. Service will be replaced by a frequent express bus operating from Kennedy station to McCowan station and the Scarborough Town Centre via Midland. Buses will run every six minutes.

The early closures will continue until December 21, 2002 and will resume between March and August 2003.

Dundas West Station Reconstruction - Further News

Other routes affected by the rebuilding of Dundas West station’s surface route terminal: 40 Junction will operate out of Keele station and run east on Bloor and north on Dundas. 168 Symington will operate from Lansdowne station, running west on Bloor. Note that transfers will be required to switch between subway and bus at Lansdowne station. 300 Bloor-Danforth Night and 313 Jane Night will be diverted as needed while the section of Dundas Street outside the station becomes impassible.

September 1st Route Changes

Service on a number of routes will be increased to handle the increased traffic the reopening of school brings. Also, York Region continues to upgrade their transit by contracting new services from the TTC. A branch of 102 Markham Road will replace YRT Route 9 along Markham Road north of Steeles. The 102D service, operating from Warden station to Major Mackenzie Drive will operate Mondays to Saturdays at frequencies ranging from 20 minutes to 60.

Service increases on 99 Arrow Road, 45 Kipling, 79 Scarlett Road, 60 Steeles West, 106 York University and 196 York University Rocket, while service decreases on 61 Avenue Road North, 37 Islington, 162 Lawrence-Donway, 16 McCowan, 131 Nugget, 63 Ossington and 134 Progress.

A regular holiday service will be operated on Monday, October 14 as part of Canadian Thanksgiving.
