The Battle for St. Clair is heating up. The well-organized, well-funded opponents to the private right-of-way have been active handing out flyers and posters and attending meetings, but they were only able to get 100 people to show up to a rally this past weekend. Their actions, however, are making the news. SCRIPT continues to work hard to get its side of the story out, and has been steadily gathering signatures for its pro right-of-way petition. The Toronto Star has weighed in with an editorial supporting the project.

A month ago, passengers were complaining about the condition of the Eglinton station bus terminal. Now, those same patrons are enjoying the TTC’s shiny new temporary terminal which will serve passengers until the new permanent terminal is built on the old site. Reviews of the state of the station are now a lot more positive.

The City of Toronto is close to balancing its budget, maintaining most services without severe cuts with only a modest tax hike and plenty of assistance from the provincial government. The Ontario Liberals deliver their first budget on May 18 and it is hoped that some permanent assistance, in the form of a transfer of the gas tax, might make Toronto’s chaotic budget scrambles a thing of the past. Or, at least, slightly less chaotic.
