St. Clair Debate Enters New Phase

The TTC has announced its preferred options for upgrading the streetcar tracks along St. Clair Avenue. It’s favoured plan is a full, Spadina-style right-of-way. A secondary option has tracks in mixed traffic, nipping around left-turn lanes, which solves some, but not all, of the TTC’s problems enroute.

A full public meeting on the plans will be held at the Joseph J. Piccininni Community Centre at St. Clair and Lansdowne Avenue. There will be an open house at 5:30 pm, followed by a staff presentation and a question and answer session at 7 pm.

It is likely that opponents of this project will be out in force to make as much noise as possible. Supporters of this proposal are encouraged to be polite, but show up and make their opinions known.

The next few weeks will likely be critical as the St. Clair proposal ticks down to a council decision in August.
