The TTC and the Santa Claus Parade

The Santa Claus Parade is tomorrow. Over 1500 volunteers are expected to march before a crowd of over one hundred thousand. The parade will start at Christie and Bloor at 12:35 pm and will travel east on Bloor, south on Queen’s Park and University, east on Queen, south on Yonge and east on Front to terminate at Church Street. Expect delays and service disruptions on the 505 Dundas, 506 Carlton and 504 King streetcars, and diversions to the 501 Queen streetcar.

It will likely be chaotic, but the subway is still the best way to attend this event. The parade passes Christie, Bathurst, Spadina, St. George, Museum, Queen’s Park, St. Patrick, Osgoode, Queen and King stations, and you can count on the trains to move the crowds to and from the event quickly.

Thanks to the Ontario Electric Railway Historical Association, there will be a transit component to the parade. A vintage 1946 GM bus, painted in the post-war TTC colours and numbered 792, will be leading the parade. If you want to see this piece of transit history, come early.
