Fare Hike Mobilization

Rocket Riders and the Toronto Environmental Alliance are not taking the prospect of a TTC fare hike lying down:

On Friday, February 4th, the City budget committee recommended that the TTC implement a fare increase. They also asked the TTC to come up with $26.8 million in additional cuts to it’s capital budget, which has already been reduced by $58.2 million. If these recommendations become reality, transit riders will be paying more for a system that gives them less. In addition, no other city agency or department has been directed to cut this much from their budget request.

We can no longer wait for the Province and the Federal Government to bail out Toronto’s broken transit system. The fate of the TTC now lies in City Council’s hands.

Please tell Councillors and the Mayor to stop any further cuts to the TTC budget and refuse the fare increase.

HOW TO TAKE ACTION

Wednesday, February 9th, Committee Room 2, 1:00pm. The Toronto Transit Commission meets to discuss and vote on the fare increase and other TTC budget cuts. To make your voice heard, sign up for a deputation by calling the TTC at 393-3698.

If you can’t make a deputation, contact your Councillor and Mayor Miller (mayor_miller@toronto.ca) to voice your concerns. To find out who your councillor is and their contact information, go to: http://app.toronto.ca/im/council/councillors.jsp
