Interested in a bed in a bag? A camera? How about an acoustic guitar?

After holding lost items found on commission property for six months, the TTC has long had a tradition of selling off those materials in order to make room in the lost and found department. According to this article on the CBC, however, the TTC’s semi-annual tradition may become a thing of the past. The TTC has contracted with eBay on a one-year pilot project to hold its lost and found auction online.

While some may decry the loss of tradition, the online sale, found here, opens up the TTC’s inventory to a wider market. Also, under eBay, the sale never ends. Once an item is held for the required 90 days, it goes up for auction rather than cluttering up space waiting for the semi-annual sale.

The TTC typically sells 44,000 lost items per year. By choosing eBay, the TTC joins the Toronto Police Service in selling online.
