TTC Strike Watch: Down to the Wire

TTC commissioners remained concerned but confident today on the prospects of avoiding a strike, according to this Toronto Star article. Negotiations are continuing to avoid a work stoppage that could come as soon as a minute after midnight today, but so far the parties have not spoken to reporters on how talks are going.

This may change at 10:30 a.m. when representatives of Local 113 of the Amalgamated Transit Union hold a press conference. Commissioner Mihevic advises that commuters make contingency plans in case negotiations fail.

(Update: 11:41 a.m.): GO Transit has issued a press release stating that regular GO service will operate in the event of a strike. Because GO is at capacity, there will be no extra trains. Where possible, buses will be reassigned to address crowding issues. Delays are expected because of higher than normal passenger volume, and passengers are asked to arrive at their stations early to find parking and buy tickets. Car pooling, using local transit or walking to your GO stop is highly recommended.

Keep an eye on GO’s official website for details.
