TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED!

A news conference was held around 5:45 p.m. to announce that a tentative agreement has been reached between representatives of the Amalgamated Transit Workers’ Union and the Toronto Transit Commission, averting a city-wide transit strike that would have started tomorrow morning. Details of the deal won’t be released until Thursday, when the union membership have a chance to ratify the agreement, but commuters can breathe a sigh of relief.

The union and management had been negotiating all day at the request of the Ontario Minister of Labour, and signs that an agreement were in the works came around 5 p.m. when Toronto mayor David Miller cancelled a conference with the press and announced a new conference later that hour.
