Possible GO Transit Strike, May 18?

GO Transit itself won’t be striking. However, as its train operations are handled under contract by Canadian National and Canadian Pacific railways, GO Transit is susceptible to labour disruptions hitting either of these two corporations.

Labour disruptions could hit Canadian National as early as Wednesday morning. If a full-fledged strike occurred, all GO Train operation would cease on all lines, save for Milton (which is operated by Canadian Pacific). GO Bus services would not be affected, although GO notes that it doesn’t have nearly the buses nor the capacity to handle the thousands of commuters that would be displaced from GO Train service.

(Update: 23:59): The CBC has more on this story.

“More than 1,750 locomotive engineers are set to walk off the job on Wednesday morning with the aim of halting CN freight trains across most of the country and interrupting some service on Toronto and Montreal commuter lines…”
