TTC Announces Service Changes for June 19

The TTC has announced more service changes effective Sunday, June 19. The changes will increase the number of accessible routes in the city as well as increase service on specific routes that receive increased service during the summer months. The TTC also formally announced the beginning of its bike rack trial program on six routes throughout the city.

The official press release can be found here, while a more detailed list of the changes will be found here.

Eglinton Avenue West Closed on Saturday

The Toronto Roads Department has issued an alert notifying drivers that Eglinton Avenue West between Avenue Road and Warren Road will be closed this Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. This will, of course, disrupt service on the 32 Eglinton West route as buses will have to divert around the blockage. Plan accordingly.

Feds Deliver Less of Gas Tax than Hoped

In other news, city and TTC officials reached with disappointment when they learned that the promised federal gas tax transfer would be divided strictly according to population and not by ridership. The former arrangement benefits especially smaller towns and cities trying to establish or grow new transit systems, while established transit systems are left with less money to renew themselves. The Toronto Star has full details here.
