TTC Ordered to Improve Accessibility for Blind

The TTC has lost an Ontario Human Rights Commission case over the issue of accommodation of the blind.

The TTC’s failure to regularly announce subway stops is what’s behind the rights commission’s interim ruling. They have appointed a monitor — who will be paid by the transit commission — to ensure the announcements get made, and to ensure that TTC staff undergo educational seminars.

TTC chair Howard Moscoe says they are “happy to comply” and also hopes to improve the speaker system.
