The “suspicious package” that shut down a section of the Yonge subway on Tuesday contained books, personal belongings and identification. The Toronto Star has more details here. Fortunately for the person who owned the package, Toronto police and the newspaper refrained from giving out the individual’s name, saving him from having dozens of commuters “thank” him for the experience. It is a tense time on the TTC, with the memories of the London Underground bombings still fresh.

The issue of announcing stops is not going away. The Toronto Star writes about a pilot project to automatically announce bus stops on the Bayview route. Fresh from his victory in getting the TTC to move forward on automatic station stops, blind lawyer David Lepofsky criticizes the commission for going too slow on fixing this subtle but important matter of customer service.

Lets GO to the EX!

The Canadian National Exhibition opens today. Time was, this summer festival would completely rewrite the TTC’s schedules, with specialized routes gathering patrons throughout the city to attend. With crowds not being what they used to be, and the 509 Harbourfront streetcar offering reliable service to Union Station, the only extra services the TTC is offering this year is the return of the 193 Exhibition Rocket, taking passengers directly from Dundas West station to the Dufferin Gates.

GO Transit is offering additional services to the Exhibition as well. Weekday local trains that used to bypass Exhibition GO Station will now stop at the station. For more details, go here.
