Brace for the Remnants of Katrina

Our thoughts and prayers go to the people on the Gulf Coast today, especially the thousands of people still holed up in New Orleans, as Hurricane Katrina batters the city.

The monster storm looks as though it will follow a track that will put it over southern Ontario Wednesday and into early Thursday. Although the remnants of Katrina will pack almost none of its current winds, Toronto and Ottawa (not to mention the other cities in between and in southwestern Ontario) may receive as much as 50-100 mm of rain throughout the day, with a fair chunk of it falling during the afternoon rush hour. Coming just two weeks after a massive storm washed out Finch Avenue, commuters should leave themselves extra time to get around on Wednesday, and be prepared for service disruptions.
