TTC Transferable Metropasses Selling Like Hotcakes

That’s what the CBC is saying. Since introducing its transferrable Metropass program, the Toronto Transit Commission has seen sales of the nearly $100 pass increase. Their October 2005 numbers were a 50% increase on the same period in 1999. The success appears not to have been anticipated, since the TTC has reported that the passes have sold out, and that the shortage will continue until January, as a result of a three month turnaround in ordering the new passes.

Blogger CuppaJoe has his doubts about the lengthy turnaround time in ordering more passes, and one wonders if the delay is an attempt to cool down this popular initiative somewhat so as to save a little money, but this news still proves the popularity of the initiative, and the popularity of public transportation in the City of Toronto.

Thanks to Andrew Spicer and Brent Hooton for stepping into the breach while my wife gave birth to our beautiful baby daughter, Vivian Katherine Bow, this past Wednesday, and thanks to everybody who sent us their best wishes. As I will be coping with night feedings for a little while to come, my posts here will be a little sporadic (though they will come, I hope), but I am thankful that other contributors are on hand to keep this site fresh.
