Happy Holidays. Now Watch Your Schedule

It’s an annual tradition. On the two weeks around Christmas and New Year’s, the schedules of various transit agencies around the GTA go haywire. GO Transit in particular plays around with its train schedules on the Fridays before Christmas and New Year’s due to commuters booking off work early, but all agencies adjust their schedules to cope with days off, shopping rushes, and late night carousing.

The TTC will be operating a modified weekday service this Friday and on Friday, December 30. The afternoon peak rush will be reduced, but it will be stretched to run from noon until 5 p.m. Regular Saturday and Sunday service will be operated on Christmas Eve and Christmas respectively, but Saturday service will operate on Monday the 26th and Tuesday the 27th. Regular weekday service will operate on Wednesday the 28th and Thursday the 29th, with reduced peak period service on routes 191, 44 and 134.

On New Year’s Eve, TTC and GO service will be extended well into the night with most TTC late evening routes operating until 3 a.m. The last subway trains will leave Union on Yonge and University at around 2:30 a.m., the last Bloor-Danforth trains will leave Yonge at 2:38 a.m., and the Sheppard subway and the Scarborough RT will continue to operate up until the last connecting trains on the Yonge and Bloor-Danforth subways drop off their passengers at Sheppard-Yonge and Kennedy respectively

As it is expected that many workers will take Monday, January 2 off to recover from their New Year’s hangovers, Saturday service will operate on this day on both the TTC and GO

Frequent service will be operated, from about 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from about 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sundays.

This service will continue until Finch West is reopened.
