Spacing Presents In Transit

In Transit is a gallery exhibit of photos, paintings, video and audio installations that captures moments of Toronto’s public transit system. The Spacing Magazine presentation runs at the Toronto Free Gallery at 660 Queen Street East from January 19 to February 28. You can get more details at Spacing’s special In Transit website here. A launch party will be held at the gallery on Thursday, January 19 at 7 p.m.

From Spacing’s release: “IN TRANSIT is the second of two gallery shows this month to focus on the TTC. The short, successful run of “What The TTC Could Be,” presented by our friends over at the Toronto Public Space Committee, challenged people to re-imagine Toronto’s transit system as a blank canvas. IN TRANSIT’s artists explore the everyday beauty and shared experiences that brings life to our busses, streetcars and subways.”

Streetcar Service to Union Station Update

The TTC is reporting that track maintenance in the Bay Street tunnel will soon be complete, and regular streetcar service will return to Union Station on Monday, January 23.

Another Salvo in the Battle For St. Clair

Save Our St. Clair lost another legal battle in its fight to prevent the upgrade of the St. Clair streetcar service to private right-of-way operation. The Globe and Mail reports that the Ontario Court of Appeal refused to hear the group’s request to reinstate the October decision to halt the project.

The issue remains up in the air, however, as the group is raising funds for another court challenge.
