The Toronto Star recently asked its readers to identify the Toronto Transit Commission’s worst route. It didn’t specify the criteria but, according to the results printed here, riders made their choices typically citing crowding conditions and the unreliability or unpredictability of service. Most of the nominations speak to the TTC’s frustration in finding money enough to operate enough buses and streetcars to keep the crowds down, although some speak to the problems of vehicles being delayed by traffic and bunching up in service.
Of the twenty-one nominations cited, no less than five cited 60 Steeles West as the TTC’s worst route, with both crowds and unreliability cited as problems. Can it be coincidence that Steeles Avenue has been cited by the Canadian Automobile Association as one of the worst roads in Ontario?
Food for thought.
