Sheppard Diversion Lengthened; May Service Changes Launched

The diversion of Sheppard and York University buses, required due to a sinkhole blocking traffic on Sheppard between Bathurst and Senlac, just got longer. Effective this past Sunday, buses which had been diverted via Bathurst, Ellerslie and Senlac will now run north to Finch instead. It’s likely that residents along Ellerslie Avenue may have complained bitterly about all of the additional bus traffic. Details can be found here.

If car drivers now have to choose between Wilson and Finch to get from Bathurst and Sheppard to Bathurst and Yonge, traffic problems in the north of Toronto just got even worse. Plan some extra time in your commute if you’re heading through the area.

The TTC has also rolled out its service changes for the May board period, effective this past Sunday. Details can be found here. Among the significant changes:

  • Service improvements on 11 Bayview/28 Davisville, 111 East Mall, 34 Eglinton East, 43 Kennedy, 504 King, 54 Lawrence East, 16 McCowan, 63 Ossington, 190 Scarborough Centre Rocket, 123 Shorncliffe and 96 Wilson
  • Seasonal service improvements on 6 Bay, 172 Cherry Street, 509 Harbourfront and 29 Dufferin
  • Seasonal service reductions on 106 York University, 196 York University Rocket, 134 Progress and 44 Kipling South.
  • Improved combined service with 105 Dufferin North and 117 Allness

Monday, May 22 is Victoria Day. The TTC will be operating holiday service on that day, which means that surface routes will operate on a Sunday schedule, while the subway will open at 6:00 a.m.
