Switching Problems Stall Yonge Subway

At 8:40 a.m. this morning, the Yonge subway between Lawrence and Bloor stations was effectively taken offline thanks to a switching problem at Davisville station. Shuttle buses are now being marshalled to take passengers between Lawrence and Bloor but, as you can imagine, the situation for commuters is chaotic. If you can, the TTC recommends that you head over to the Spadina subway and travel between Lawrence West and St. George station.

Personally, if you find yourself caught in the middle of the situation, and if you can afford to do this, call ahead to work, tell them you’re going to be about a half hour to an hour late, find yourself a coffee shop and relax. If you return to the subway after this problem is cleared up, you may find that you will get to work not much later than if you struggled to get around the blockage.

The Toronto Star has more details on this breaking story. Regular service is expected to resume by 9:30, but be prepared for crowding and lingering delays this morning as the system restores itself.

(Update: 9:32 a.m.): The TTC reports that the problem has been resolved and service is resuming. Expect crowded platforms and trains for the next fifteen minutes or so.
