Public Meeting on West Waterfront LRT

The environmental assessment on the proposed Waterfront West LRT is continuing, and the TTC will be holding public meetings on the concept on Monday, November 27 and Tuesday, November 28. The Monday meeting will take place at the Church of the Holy Family at 1372 King Street West while the Tuesday meeting will take place at the National Trade Centre. Both meetings start at 6:30 p.m. Another meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 22 at the Polish Alliance Hall, at 2282 Lakeshore Boulevard West, from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Further details of this environmental assessment can be found at this web page. The TTC and the City of Toronto are considering extending streetcar tracks west from Exhibition Loop, initially to connect to a revised Dufferin Loop, but possibly also to connect directly with the Queensway private right-of-way near Queen and Roncesvalles. Such a connection could produce an LRT line running almost entirely on private right-of-way between Union Station and a new loop at Lakeshore and Park Lawn.

This author hopes that the TTC is able to find a more suitable location for its loop than Park Lawn. The TTC is considering adding a loop here to at least short turn Queen streetcars here instead of at Humber, so as to better serve the new condominium developments in Mimico. However, those condominium developments in Mimico are still well to the west of Park Lawn Loop. The TTC initially approved a loop on Legion Road, which would be a lot more in the thick of things, but the changing urban land has rendered this idea less feasible.
