DRT improves services

Durham Region Transit will revise and improve several routes to connect with the extended GO Train service to Ajax, Pickering and Oshawa Stations which began today, December 30.

DRT East (Oshawa and Clarington)

DRT previously served the Oshawa station only on Saturdays, but will enhance its service on Sunday to connect with the trains.

Starting tomorrow, December 31, DRT buses will operate on the 3 Park route and will arrive at the GO station every 15 minutes after the hour from 9:15 a.m. until 9:15 p.m. (GO trains arrive at 8 minutes after the hour and depart at 41 minutes after the hour). This service replaces the shorter 3B Park route which previously ran during the daytime on Sundays. DRT buses on the 3 Park route will leave the Oshawa Centre starting 9:45 a.m. on Sundays and then every 60 minutes until 8:45 p.m.

DRT buses will operate on the 13 GO Shuttle route every Sunday, starting tomorrow. The buses will now leave from the Oshawa Centre, starting at 9:30 a.m. and every 60 minutes until 6:30 p.m. (Buses on this route do not originate or terminate in downtown Oshawa on Sundays.) The buses will arrive at the GO station at 35 minutes after the hour. (GO trains arrive at 8 minutes after the hour and depart at 41 minutes after the hour). Buses from the train station will arrive at the Oshawa Centre at 45 minutes after the hour so that passengers can connect with buses on other routes.

DRT buses will also operate on the 4 College Hill route every Sunday, starting tomorrow. The first bus leaves the Oshawa Centre at 9:45 a.m. and every 60 minutes until 6:45 p.m. DRT has modified this route for the new Sunday service. Buses on this route will not serve the GO station on Sundays, although the regular Monday-to-Saturday route does operate to the station.

DRT Centre (Whitby)

Effective today, December 30, DRT will modify its weekend schedule on the 1/2B/3 and 4/5 routes to allow passengers to connect with GO trains.

DRT has adjusted the 1/2B/3 Garden/Brock/McQuay/GO/Hospitals weekend schedule by 10 minutes earlier to reflect train arrivals and departures. The first bus on this route leaves Whitby Station at 8:30 a.m. and buses then leave every 60 minutes until 11:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

DRT has extended the 4/5 Thickson/Garrard/Anderson/Consumers weekend route into the Whitby Station. Buses will take 37 minutes to complete the 4 Anderson portion of the route. Buses will take 38 minutes to complete the 5 Thickson portion. Buses will travel to the GO station after completing each portion of the route.

The first bus serving the 4 Anderson portion leaves Whitby Station at 8:25 a.m. and buses will continue to leave the station every 75 minutes until 11:25 p.m. on Saturday, or 5:10 p.m. on Sunday.

The first 5 Thickson bus leaves Whitby Station at 9:02 a.m. and buses will continue to leave the station every 75 minutes until just after midnight on Saturday (12:02 a.m Sunday) and 5:47 p.m. on Sunday.

Buses on the 4/5 route will not meet all GO trains. Passengers will have to determine which trip best meets their needs.
