You'll See Lower Bay this Weekend, Why Not Visit It?

The media coverage is well underway bringing to Torontonians’ attention the fact that the Bloor-Danforth subway will be diverting and passing through Lower Bay station during weekends starting tomorrow. Passengers in trains passing between Yonge and Museum stations will be able to see this station (which has apparently been cleaned up), but trains will not stop and passengers will not be allowed onto the platform, as the stairwells to Upper Bay have been blocked off and the escalators removed.

Those wishing to tour the platform will have an opportunity to do so on the weekend of May 26-27, as the platform will be open to the public as part of Doors Open Toronto. The National Post is reporting that current plans have the platform open for just three hours on Saturday, May 26, but Doors Open organizers are hopeful that those hours will be extended, as they expect the “lost station” will be a popular attraction.

Passengers tomorrow should be prepared for considerable disruption as the diversions come into effect. TTC personnel will be on hand to marshall crowds and answer questions, so a little patience on everybody’s part should allow things to go smoothly.
