Fare exchange in the GTA

This week, two Greater Toronto Area transit systems will change the way that passengers pay and how much they pay for transit service.

Toronto Transit Commission: End is near for old tokens

Mississauga Transit: Fare increase

Toronto Transit Commission

Wednesday, February 28 is the last day that passengers can exchange “old” TTC tokens for new ones.

If you have fewer than 100 old tokens, you can exchange them for new ones at collectors’ booths from Monday to Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at: Bloor-Yonge, Finch, Kipling and Warden subway stations.

If you have more than 100 tokens you can exchange them at the TTC head office, above Davisville Station, Monday to Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Staff at the head office will provide you with a token exchange form. You must complete and sign the form and provide identification before you can exchange your old tokens for new ones.

You can also exchange fewer than 100 tokens at the head office.

The TTC will not exchange old tokens for cash. You can only exchange old tokens for new tokens in person.

Mississauga Transit

Starting tomorrow, Monday, February 26, MT is increasing the cost of tickets and passes, while cash fare remains at $2.50.

MT has increased:

All ticket prices by 10 cents;

All weekly pass prices by $1.00;

Adult and student monthly passes by $4.00;

Monthly GO Transit sticker prices by $1.00;

GO cash fare to and from GO rail stations by 5 cents.

MT increased prices for senior annual and monthly passes on December 1, 2006.

The transit fare increases coincide with new ticket designs for the adult, student, child and senior categories. These tickets will have new sizes and additional security features. The new ticket designs help drivers to identify the fare category more easily and the new security features will reduce incidents of fraud.

Starting tomorrow, MT drivers will only accept new tickets.

Passengers can exchange “old” tickets for new ones until May 31, 2007.

You can exchange 50 tickets or fewer at the City Centre Transit Terminal ticket booth, weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or Sundays from 11 a.m.to 6:30 p.m. or at the Mississauga Transit ticket booth at Islington subway station, weekdays only from 6 a.m. to 6:55 p.m.

You can exchange any number of tickets by mail at the Mississauga Transit Office, 975 Central Parkway West, Mississauga, ON L5C 3B1. You can also exchange any number of tickets at the Transit Office in person, weekdays only, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
