Southern Ontario is digging out today from a significant winter storm that dumped inches of snow and topped everything off with ice pellets and freezing rain. Schools are closed across the province, and the commute in the Greater Toronto Area is arduous. If you have the option, you should probably stay home.

Scarborough RT shut down
BlogTO is reporting that the Scarborough RT has been shut down due to fallen trees obstructing the tracks. Shuttle buses are carrying the load between McCowan and Kennedy. Since a number of stoplights are out and are thus being treated as four-way stops, travel times between McCowan and Kennedy are extremely long. Fortunately, the subway continues to operate with no significant delays. The same cannot be said about any other vehicle the TTC operates.
The Ontario Provincial Police logged 220 accidents overnight on area highways. The forecast for today continuing wet snow and rain. Stay tuned to local media for updates.
