New routes and new fares for Durham Region Transit

On April 19, Durham Regional Council approved a proposal from Durham Region Transit (DRT) to increase its service with new and expanded routes. Council also approved increasing DRT fares.

Starting in June, DRT will extend its current routes along Taunton and Rossland Roads, serving Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), to Ajax and Pickering GO Stations. The extension will integrate the current Campus 101 service and increase frequency and capacity on both routes.

DRT will expand service to Brooklin to add evening and weekend service, starting in July. It will introduce new Monday-to-Friday service from the Townships of Uxbridge and Scugog to Durham College/UOIT in September. DRT will also introduce Monday-to-Friday service in Brock Township in September. In December, DRT will begin a new weekday peak period service for Port Whitby and the Whitby industrial area.

DRT fares increase on July 1. DRT will increase fares an average of seven percent in most fare categories. DRT recommended increasing fares to support new services and minimize the impact of funding new transit services by increasing property taxes. The new fare structure will provide a larger discount to passengers who purchase multi-ride tickets or monthly passes instead of cash fares.
