Upcoming GTA and Hamilton transit service changes

Several Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton transit agencies will introduce service changes, starting this weekend.

They will: improve or revise existing services; introduce new routes; reduce services to colleges and universities; re-instate seasonal services; and make other changes.


Durham Region Transit

Improve or revise existing services

GO Transit

65 Barrie-Bradford GO Bus: Starting Monday, April 30, buses will no longer serve the carpool lot at Highways 88 and 400, due to low demand.

66 Newmarket Highway 400 GO Bus: Starting Monday, April 30, many buses on this route will serve a new carpool lot at Major Mackenzie Drive and Highway 400. GO will also run one morning peak trip from Bradford to the carpool lot at Highways 9 and 400. This trip will also stop at the Highways 88 and 400 carpool lot. GO will run a similar trip during the afternoon peak from the Highways 9 and 400 carpool lot to Bradford, stopping at the Highways 88 and 400 lot. This trip allows Bradford residents and other morning peak passengers on the 65 Barrie-Bradford GO Bus route to connect with the express bus to Yorkdale and afternoon express bus passengers to connect with the local service in Bradford.

94 Oshawa Highway 2 GO Bus: Starting Monday, April 30, GO will split the route into three services. Check Transit Toronto’s April 20 posting or GO’s customer service flyer for details.

Guelph Transit

9 Stone Road Mall: Starting Sunday, May 6, Guelph Transit will revise the southern on-street loop. Buses will travel on their current route to Edinburgh and Kortright Roads, then loop along Kortright, Gordon Street and Edinburgh.

24 Industrial: Starting Sunday, May 6, Guelph Transit will simplify the on-street loops at the north end of the route. Inbound buses will follow their current route to Massey and Elmira Road, then proceed southbound along Elmira, instead of looping along Massey, Imperial Road and Speedvale Avenue.

70A Perimeter: Starting Monday, May 7, Guelph Transit will extend the route to serve the Guelph Airport area. Buses will follow their current route to Stone and Victoria Roads, then continue eastbound along Stone Road, northbound along Watson Road, northbound along Watson Parkway, eastbound along Dunlop Drive, northbound along Watson Road, westbound along York Road, north-westbound along Elizabeth Street, before returning to their current route at Elizabeth and Victoria.

70B Perimeter: Starting Monday, May 7, Guelph Transit will extend the route to serve the Guelph Airport area. Buses will follow their current route to Victoria Road and Elizabeth Street, then continue south-eastbound along Elizabeth, eastbound along York Road, southbound along Watson Road, westbound along Dunlop Drive, southbound along Watson Road, and westbound along Stone Road, before returning to their current route at Stone and Victoria.

York Region Transit

31 Aurora North: Starting Monday, April 30, YRT will discontinue its service along Church Street and Victoria Avenue. All Monday-to-Saturday buses on this route will remain on Wellington Street.

520/521 Newmarket Community Bus: Starting Sunday, April 29, YRT will extend the route so that buses serve the No Frills supermarket at 17255 Leslie Street. It has also added stops at the Costco Warehouse at 18182 Yonge Street and Michael’s Arts and Crafts at 18186 Yonge Street.


Introduce new routes

GO Transit

95 Oshawa Highway 2 Express GO Bus;
96 Oshawa Highway 401 GO Bus
: Starting Monday, April 30, GO will split its 94 Oshawa Highway 2 GO Bus service into three routes. Check Transit Toronto’s April 20 posting or GO’s customer service flyer for details.


Reduce services to colleges and universities

Most colleges and universities have fewer classes during the summer, so transit agencies reduce service until September.

Durham Region Transit

Friday, April 27 is the last day that DRT’s

Campus 101 route operates from Pickering and Ajax GO Stations to Durham College / University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). DRT will revise its services along Rossland and Taunton Roads this summer, and those changes will include new service between the GO Stations and Durham College / UOIT.

DRT passengers can still get to Durham College / UOIT on DRT East’s 1 Simcoe, 15 / 15B Taunton and 19 / 20 Durham College-Oshawa GO Station routes throughout the summer.

GO Transit

31 Georgetown GO Train and Bus: Starting Sunday, April 29, GO will cancel all trips to or from the University of Guelph until September. All Guelph service will begin or end at the downtown Guelph bus terminal. Guelph Transit also serves the University throughout the summer.

46 Highway 407 West GO Bus: Starting Monday,April 30, GO will reduce service on this route to York University. Earlier this month, GO cancelled all trips on this route that began or ended at McMaster University, although all regular Highway 407 West trips between York University and the Hamilton GO Centre will still also serve McMaster throughout the summer. The Hamilton Street Railway also serves the University throughout the summer.

50 UofT Scarborough / Centennial College GO Bus: GO will cancel this route from Unionville GO station on Friday, April 27 until September. GO passengers can still travel to the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus and Centennial College’s Progress campus on the 52 Highway 407 East route. The TTC also serves these campuses.

52 Highway 407 East GO Bus: Starting Monday, April 30, GO will reduce service on this route to York University.

93 Durham College - UOIT GO Bus: GO will cancel this route on Friday, April 27 until September. GO passengers can still travel to Durham College - UOIT on the 52 Highway 407 East route. Durham Region Transit also serves these campuses.

Guelph Transit

51A University: Guelph Transit cancelled this route on Friday, April 20 until September.
Guelph Transit passengers can still travel to the University of Guelph on the 51 Gordon, 52 University / Kortright and 70 A / B Perimiter routes throughout the summer.

55 University / College: Guelph Transit cancelled this route on Friday, April 20 until September. Passengers can still travel to the University of Guelph on the 51 Gordon, 52 University / Kortright and 70 A / B Perimiter routes throughout the summer.

Hamilton Street Railway

51 University: HSR will cancel this route on Friday, April 27 until September.
HSR passengers can still travel to McMaster University on the 1 King, 5 Delaware / 5B Main West / 5C West Hamilton / 52 Dundas, 10 Beeline Express and 16 Ancaster routes throughout the summer.

Redeemer College University Shuttle: HSR will cancel this route on Monday, April 30 until September.

York Region Transit

10 York University-Woodbridge: Starting on Monday, April 30, YRT is reducing peak-period frequency to 45 minutes.


Re-instate seasonal service

GO Transit

43 Canada’s Wonderland GO Bus: GO begins its seasonal service from York Mills and Yorkdale Stations to the park on Saturday, April 28. GO offers service on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only until May 18, when it begins seven-days-a-week service. (Note that special groups have reserved whole park on April 28, 29 and May 4 and 5, so the park will not admit members of the general public on those days.)

York Region Transit

4 Major Mackenzie: Starting on Sunday, April 29, seasonal service into Canada’s Wonderland resumes. YRT buses operate into the park along the Jane Street access road north of Major Mackenzie Drive. They serve a stop near the employees’ entrance. Buses on the 4A branch will not serve Wonderland.

20 Jane-Concord: Starting on Sunday, April 29, seasonal service into Canada’s Wonderland resumes. YRT buses operate into the park along the Jane Street access road north of Major Mackenzie Drive. They serve a stop near the employees’ entrance.

Toronto Transit Commission

165 Weston Road North: Starting on Sunday, May 6, seasonal weekend and holiday service into Canada’s Wonderland resumes. This branch will operate from approximately 9:35 a.m. to 11 p.m on Saturdays, and from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. TTC buses operate into the park along the Jane Street access road north of Major Mackenzie Drive. They serve a stop near the employees’ entrance.
