It doesn’t rain but it pours. Late yesterday afternoon, streetcars were barred from the Bay Street tunnel between Union Station and Queens Quay due to track problems inside. Shuttle buses are replacing streetcars all along Queens Quay, with 510 Spadina and 511 Bathurst cars cut back to Queens Quay and Spadina loop.
Emergency construction crews are on the scene and service is expected to resume shortly.
Emergency track repairs continue to work on Fleet Street after a derailment abruptly ended service. Sources tell us that the long (long!) overdue work upgrading these tracks to private right-of-way won’t start until September, however, due to continuing problems in coordinating schedules with Toronto Hydro.
(Update: 3:43.p.m.): TTC information reports that the emergency track construction in the tunnel will continue during the afternoon peak period. Passengers at Union Station can board shuttle buses on Bay Street, south of Front Street East.
(Update: Monday, May 7, 8:17 a.m.): TTC information reports that the construction is continuing and that passengers will have to board shuttle buses at Union Station to reach Harbourfront.
