One of the first hot days of the season ended badly for thousands of Toronto commuters when signal problems at Union station interrupted subway service on the Yonge and University subway lines starting at 4:30 p.m. The TTC tried to supply shuttle buses to handle affected commuters between St. George, Union and Bloor stations, but with one subway train carrying a load that would fill to bursting ten buses, and with trains scheduled to operate at roughly every two minutes, this proved to be an impossible task. Many commuters had no choice but to wait out the delay, or simply walk past the affected sections.
Subway service resumed at around 5:30 p.m., but trains are said to be proceeding slowly through the affected area. Further details are available at the Toronto Star.
