Route diversions for special events this weekend

Special events in Ajax, Milton and Richmond Hill will divert transit services this weekend

Ajax

The Town of Ajax will close Mill Street, south of Station Street, Station Street between Mill and and Harwood Avenue and Harwood between Station and Bayly Street on Saturday, June 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m., so that the Town can hold its annual Ajax Home Week Parade.

During the parade, GO Transit will divert buses on its 94 Oshawa Highway 2 route. Westbound buses will follow their regular route to Harwood and Kingston Road / Highway 2 and then detour by continuing eastward along Kingston, southward along Westney Road into the Ajax GO Station, where they will follow their regular route. Eastbound buses will follow their regular route to the Ajax GO Station, then divert by proceeding northward along Westney and eastward along Kingston, rejoining their regular route at Harwood and Kingston.

GO buses will not serve Fairall Street, Ajax Terminal, Ajax Plaza or Harwood Avenue during the parade.

The parade will also require Durham Region Transit buses to divert from their regular routes, but DRT does not indicate where it will divert buses. The parade would affect service on the M18 Beach, M24 Harwood, M32 Village, M35 Puckrin / Elm, M40 Applecroft and Flag Bus 1 and 2.

Milton

The Town of Milton will close Main Street, from Millside Drive to Brown Street this Saturday, June 9 from 2 to 10 p.m., to accommodate the Town’s 150th Anniversary Downtown Street Party.

From 1 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., all buses serving GO Transit’s 21 Milton route will begin or end service at Main and Ontario Streets. Buses will arrive at the stop at the northeast corner of Main and Ontario approximately three minutes earlier than the time that GO’s regular Saturday schedule indicates an arrival at Main and Martin Streets. Buses will depart from the stop at the southwest corner of Main and Ontario approximately three minutes later than the time that GO’s Saturday schedule lists a departure from Main and Martin.

Milton Transit does not usually operate on Saturdays, but it will offer shuttle service to and from the event. (Milton Transit expects to offer Saturday transit service starting in December.) The shuttle buses will run every half an hour from 1:30 to 10:30 p.m. on a circular route from Millside Drive and Main Street.

Richmond Hill

The Town of Richmond Hill will close Yonge Street from Major Mackenzie Drive to Crosby Avenue this Saturday, June 9 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., to accommodate Heritage Village Day celebrations in downtown Richmond Hill.

York Region Transit will divert its buses around the event. Southbound buses on the VIVA Blue route will operate on their regular route to Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road, then detour westward along Elgin MIlls, southward along Newkirk Road, and eastward along Major Mackenzie Drive, resuming their regular route at Major Mackenzie and Yonge. Northbound buses will reverse this routing.

Southbound buses on the 89A Trench route will operate on their regular route to Yonge and Levendale Drive, then detour westward along Levendale, southward along Lucas Street and eastward along Mill Street, resuming their regular route at Mill and Powell Streets. Northbound buses will reverse this routing.

Southbound buses on YRT’s 99 Yonge South route will operate on their regular route to Yonge and Crosby, then divert eastward along Crosby, southward along Pugsley Street and westward along Major Mackenzie Drive, before resuming their regular route at Major Mackenzie and Yonge.
