GTA transit service changes begin July 3



Several Greater Toronto Area transit agencies will make service changes starting Tuesday, July 3. They will: introduce new routes, increase service on current routes, cancel current routes, reduce service on current routes and adjust the schedules for current routes.


The changes affect these routes:

Durham Region Transit

302 Brock / Brooklin, 308 Whitby Shores, 318 Otter Creek / Garden / Whitby Shores; DRT Centre (Whitby): 1 / 2 / 3 Otter Creek / Garden / Brock, 2 / 2B Brock / Brooklin / Whitby Shores

GO Transit

09 Lakeshore East, 61 Richmond Hill, 94 Oshawa Highway 2, 95 Oshawa Highway 401

Mississauga Transit

39 Britannia, 49A McDowell-Thomas, 60 Meadowvale Shuttle-Crosscurrent, 61 Mavis, 64 Meadowvale Shuttle-Montevideo, 288 Wonderland Express

Introduce new routes

Durham Region Transit

302 Brock / Brooklin: Starting Tuesday, July 3, DRT buses will begin to operate along this new route to replace the north end of the former DRT Centre (Whitby) 2/2B Brock / Brooklin / Whitby Shores route. The new route will also introduce Monday-to-Friday evening and weekend service to the former village of Brooklin.

During Monday-to-Friday peak periods, Monday-to-Friday evenings and weekends, southbound buses will operate from Carnwith Drive East and Baldwin Street North Brooklin, southward along Baldwin, westward along Vipond Road, southward along Ashburn Road, eastward along Winchester Road East, southward along Baldwin Street South and Brock Streets North and South to the Whitby GO Station.

During Monday-to-Friday peak periods, Monday-to-Friday evenings and weekends, northbound buses will operate from the Whitby GO Station, northward along Brock and Baldwin, eastward along Cassells Road East, southward along Watford Street, eastward along Winchester Road East, northward along Cachet Boulevard and westward along Carnwith to Baldwin.

During Monday-to-Friday middays, southbound buses will only operate from just north of Taunton Road, serving Ecole Secondaire Charles-Garnier. They begin southward trips from Robert Attersley Drive and Baldwin, proceeding along Baldwin and Brock to Whitby GO Station.

During Monday-to-Friday middays, northbound buses operate along Brock and Baldwin and then loop eastward along Broadleaf Avenue, northward along McKinney Drive and westward along Robert Attersley Drive to Baldwin.

318 Otter Creek / Garden / Whitby Shores: Starting Saturday, July 7, DRT will introduce this route to replace weekend service on the current DRT Centre (Whitby) 1 / 2 / 3 Otter Creek / Brock / Garden weekend route. Buses on the new route will loop through the weekday routes of the 301 Otter Creek / West Lynde, 308 Whitby Shores and DRT Centre (Whitby) 3 Garden routes.

During Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays only, southbound buses operate from Robert Attersley Drive and Baldwin Street South, then proceed westward along Taunton Road West, southward along Cochrane Street, westward along Medland Street, southward along Country Lane, eastward along Rossland Road East, southward along Cochrane Street, westward along Bonacord Drive, southward along McQuay Boulevard and Jeffrey Street, counterclockwise around Michael Boulevard, eastward along Burns Street West, southward along Brock Street South through Whitby GO Station, then continue southward along Brock, westward along Victoria Street West, southward along Seaboard Gate, counterclockwise around Whitby Shores Greenway, eastward along Scadding Avenue, southward along Gordon Street to the Whitby Mental Health Centre.

During Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays only, northbound buses operate from the Whitby Mental Health Centre northward along Gordon, eastward along Victoria and northward along Brock through the Whitby GO Station, then continue northward along Brock, eastward along Burns Street East, northward along Garden Street, westward along Taunton Road East, northward along McKinney Drive, and eastward along Robert Attersley to Baldwin.

308 Whitby Shores: Starting Tuesday, July 3, this route will operate along the southern portion of the former DRT Centre (Whitby) 2 / 2B Brock / Brooklin / Whitby Shores route.

From Monday to Friday, southbound buses begin at Whitby GO Station and then proceed southward along Brock Street South, westward along Victoria Street West, southward along Seaboard Gate, counterclockwise around Whitby Shores Greenway, eastward along Scadding Avenue and southward along Gordon Street to the Whitby Mental Health Centre.

From Monday to Friday,northbound buses begin at the Whitby Mental Health Centre and proceed northward along Gordon Street, eastward along Victoria and northward along Brock to Whitby GO Station.

The new 318 Otter Creek / Garden / Whitby Shores route replaces this route on weekends.

Increase service on current routes

GO Transit

09 Lakeshore East: Starting Saturday, June 30, GO Transit added three new eastbound weekday bus trips to Newcastle from Oshawa GO Station at 1:43, 2:43, and 3:43 p.m.

Mississauga Transit

49A McDowell-Thomas: Starting Tuesday, July 3, Mississauga Transit will operate a new 7:15 pm eastbound trip, departing from TACC Drive and Ninth Line.

288 Wonderland Express: Starting Tuesday, July 3, Mississauga Transit will begin daily service between the Mississauga Centre Terminal at Square One to Canada’s Wonderland.


Cancel current routes

Durham Region Transit

2 / 2B Brock / Brooklin / Whitby Shores: Friday, June 30 was the last day for this route. Starting Tuesday, July 3, the new 302 Brock / Brooklin route will replace the northern part of this route and the new 308 Whitby Shores route will replace the southern part of this route.

1 / 2 / 3 Otter Creek / Garden / Brock: Monday, July 2 will be the last day for this weekend and holiday route. Starting Saturday, July 7, the new 302 Brock / Brooklin route will operate along the Brock Street portion of the route, while the new 318 Otter Creek / Garden / Whitby Shores route will operate along the rest of the route.


Reduce service on current routes

York Region Transit

90 Leslie South: Starting Tuesday, July 3, YRT will cancel all trips on this route to Seneca College’s King Campus and Richmond Green High School until September 2007.

520 Newmarket Community Bus: Starting Tuesday, July 3, YRT will cancel the 4:40 p.m. trip departing Upper Canada Mall.

521 Newmarket Community Bus: Starting Tuesday, July 3, YRT will cancel the 4:30 p.m. trip departing Upper Canada Mall.


Adjust schedules on current routes

GO Transit

94 Oshawa Highway 2 and
95 Oshawa Highway 401: Starting Saturday, June 30, GO adjusted departure and stop times.

61 Richmond Hill: Starting Tuesday, July 3, the train leaving Richmond Hill GO Station at 7:40 a.m. will leave at 7:45 a.m. and will depart all other stations on the line five minutes later.

Mississauga Transit

39 Britannia,

64 Meadowvale Shuttle-Montevideo: Starting Tuesday, July 3, Mississauga Transit will make minor schedule adjustments on these routes.

York Region Transit

241 Beverley Acres GO Shuttle,

86 Weldrick-Newkirk: Starting Tuesday, July 3, YRT will reschedule the 8:25 p.m. trips departing Richmond Hill GO Train Station on these routes so that they leave five minutes later at 8:30 p.m. to meet the 8:26 p.m. GO Train.
