Construction projects affect transit, starting June 27



Municipal road construction projects in Ajax, Aurora, Whitby and Toronto are starting up this week and will disrupt transit service.


The construction affects these routes:

Durham Region Transit: 301 West Lynde / Otter Creek, 301 Brock / Brooklin, 318 Otter Creek / Garden / Whitby Shores, 915 Taunton, DRT Centre (Whitby) 3 Garden.

GO Transit: 81 Port Perry

Toronto Transit Commission: 42 Cummer, 47 Lansdowne, 59 Maple Leaf

York Region Transit: 31 Aurora North


Ajax

A Durham Region project to rebuild a culvert will close Taunton Road between Westney and Brock Roads from Friday, July 6 at 9 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 8.

DRT will divert buses during the project. Westbound buses on the 915 Taunton route will operate along their regular route to Audley and Taunton Road, then divert southward along Audley, westward along Rossland Road, northward along Harwood Avenue, westward along Williamson Drive, resuming their regular route at Williamson and Westney Road. Eastbound buses will reverse this routing.


Aurora

A Town of Aurora project to reconstruct parts of Aurora Heights Drive began on Wednesday, June 27. The project will continue “until further notice”.

YRT is diverting buses on the 31 Aurora North route during the construction. Eastbound buses will operate on their regular route to Aurora Heights and McLeod Drives, then divert southward along McLeod, eastward along Wellington Street West, north- and eastward along McDonald Drive, resuming their normal route at McDonald and Haida Drives. Westbound buses will reverse this routing.


Toronto

The City of Toronto will begin three long-term construction projects on Lansdowne Avenue, McNicoll Avenue and Maple Leaf Drive tomorrow, Tuesday, July 3.

Lansdowne Avenue

The City will begin a project to reconstruct Lansdowne Avenue between College Street and Bloor Street West. The project will continue until the end of September.

The TTC will divert buses on the 47 Lansdowne route during the project. Southbound buses will operate on their regular route to Lansdowne Avenue and Bloor Street West, then detour westward along Bloor and then south- and eastward along Dundas Street West, resuming their regular route at Dundas and Lansdowne. Northbound buses will reverse this routing.

Maple Leaf Drive

The City will begin a project to reconstruct the Maple Leaf Drive bridge across Black Creek Drive and will close the bridge to all westbound traffic. The project will continue until November.

The TTC will divert buses on the 59 Maple Leaf route during the project. Eastbound buses will not divert. Westbound buses will follow their regular route to Maple Leaf and Venice Drives, and then detour southward along Venice, westward along Queen’s Drive and northward along Jane Street, resuming their regular route at Jane and Church Streets.

McNicoll Avenue

Starting at 9:30 a.m., the City will begin the next phase of a project to reconstruct the roadway on McNicoll Avenue between Warden Avenue and Birchmount Road. This phase will continue until early September, with another phase of the project continuing until October.

The TTC will divert buses on the 42 Cummer route during the project. Westbound buses will not detour. Eastbound buses will operate along their regular route to McNicoll and Warden Avenue, then divert southward along Warden, eastward along Finch Avenue East, northward along Bridletowne Circle, eastward along L’Amoreaux Drive, northward along Birchmount Road, resuming their regular route at Birchmount and McNicoll.

Whitby

The Town of Whitby is closing Brock Street between Burns Street and Consumers Drive for a reconstruction project, starting Wednesday, July 4.

During the construction, DRT Centre (Whitby) will divert buses on the 3 Garden, 301 Otter Creek / West Lynde, 302 Brock / Brooklin and 318 West Lynde / Garden / Whitby Shores (weekend) routes.

Southbound buses will follow their regular route to Brock and Burns Streets, then divert westward along Burns Street West, southward along Henry Street to Whitby GO Station. Northbound buses reverse this routing.

The construction may also delay or divert buses on GO Transit’s 81 Port Perry route.
