Construction projects affect transit this week

(Update: Monday, July 23, 3:55 p.m.): The TTC has withdrawn information on the Caledonia Road construction project from its website, meaning that the project will not be taking place on Wednesday, July 25 and that buses on the 47 Lansdowne route will not divert from Caledonia.

A long-term construction project in Oshawa and a short-term construction project in Toronto will join the list of ongoing construction projects affecting transit this week.

This week’s additional construction projects affect these routes:

Durham Region Transit: DRT East (Oshawa) 10 Harmony, 11 Grandview

Toronto Transit Commission: 47 Lansdowne

The Region of Durham has been reconstructing Harmony Road between Olive and Adelaide Avenues since mid-June and the project will continue until the fall.

Starting today, Monday, July 23, the region will reopen Harmony between Adelaide Avenue East and King Street East. Durham Region Transit will again operate buses along that part of Harmony, while continuing to detour vehicles around the construction south of King Street.

South- and westbound buses on DRT East’s 10 Olive-Harmony route will operate along their regular route to Harmony and Bond Street, then proceed eastward along Bond Street East and southward along Farewell Street, resuming their regular route at Farewell and Olive Street. North- and eastbound buses will operate along their regular route to Olive and Farewell, then detour northward along Farewell, eastward along King Street, resuming their regular route at King and Harmony.

DRT East will continue to detour buses on the 11 Grandview route. Westbound buses will operate on their regular route to Olive and Harmony, then continue westward along Olive, northward along Linden Avenue, returning to their regular route at Linden and Taylor Avenues. Eastbound buses reverse this routing.

The City of Toronto will close Caledonia Road between Rogers Road and St. Clair Avenue West on Wednesday, July 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. only to complete a project to install watermains on the street.

The TTC will divert buses on the 47 Lansdowne route during the project. Southbound buses will operate on their regular route to Caledonia and Rogers Roads, then detour westward along Rogers, southward along Old Weston Road and then eastward along St. Clair, resuming their regular routes at St. Clair and Caledonia. Northbound buses will reverse this routing.

The buses will operate on their regular routes along this part of Caledonia before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m.

Further south, a longer-term construction project affects buses on the 47 Lansdowne route. Since July 3 and continuing until September, the City of Toronto has been narrowing the pavement and reconstructing Lansdowne Avenue, between Bloor Street West and College Street. Southbound buses operate on their regular routes to Lansdowne and Bloor, then divert westward along Bloor and then south- and eastward along Dundas Street West, resuming their regular routes at Dundas and Lansdowne. Northbound buses reverse this routing.
