Barrie Transit will change its routes and hours of service starting Sunday, August 26.
Specifically, It’s: introducing a new route, canceling a current route, increasing service along a current route, revising a current route, re-instating extra services to a high school and adjusting the schedule of a current route.
The changes affect these routes:
13 Cundles East, 14 Eastview, 28 Hanmer East, 31 Essa, 41 Allandale, All routes operating on Sunday
Introducing a new route
28 Hanmer East
Starting Sunday, August 26, Barrie Transit will introduce this new route, incorporating the former 14 Eastview route and offering new service to passengers travelling to and from Hanmer Street East.
Southbound buses start their trips at Georgian Mall then proceed northward along Bayfield Street, eastward along Hanmer Street East, southward along St. Vincent Street, eastward along Cundles Road East, southward along Duckworth Street, eastward along Georgian Drive, through the Royal Victoria Hospital grounds, then continue eastward along Georgian, southward along Johnson Street, westward along Grove Street East, southward along Duckworth Street, westward along Codrington Street, southward along Owen Street, westward along Collier Street and Ross Street and then southward along Maple Street into the downtown Barrie Transit Terminal.
Northbound buses will operate from the Terminal northward along Maple, eastward along Ross and Collier, northward along Mulcaster Street, and westward along Penetang Street to Penetang and Duckworth, where the northbound buses reverse the southbound routing to Georgian Mall.
Canceling a current route
14 Eastview
The last day that Barrie Transit buses will operate on the 14 Eastview route is Saturday, August 25. On Sunday, August 26, Barrie Transit will rename the route 28 Hanmer East and extend it along Hanmer Street East to Georgian Mall.
Increasing service along current routes
Starting Sunday, August 26, Barrie Transit will increase the hours of service on Sundays. Buses will begin operating one hour earlier, at approximately 9 a.m. and operate until approximately 6 p.m. Increasing the hours on Sundays affects the schedules of all Barrie Transit routes except the 22 Crosstown and 35 Saunders routes, which do not operate on Sundays.
Revising a current route
13 Cundles East
Starting Sunday, August 26, Barrie Transit will make minor changes to the route of its 13 Cundles East service. Northbound buses will begin to operate along Kozlov and Heather Street before continuing north along Bayfield Street and west along Livingston East. Barrie Transit will also revise the schedule of this service.
Resuming extra service to a high school
41 Allandale
31 Essa
Starting Monday, September 4, Barrie Transit will re-instate its regular school hours diversion of the 31 Essa and 41 Allandale routes.
From 6:45 until 7:45 a.m., 11 until 11:30 a.m. and 2:45 until 3:45 p.m., southbound buses on the 31 Essa route will operate along their regular route to Marsellus and Sundew Drives, then divert westward along Sundew, southward along Red Oak Drive and eastward along Mapleview Drive, resuming their regular route at Mapleview and Lougheed Road. During these times, southbound buses on the 31 Essa route will not operate along Marsellus between Sundew and Mapleview or Mapleview between Marsellus and Lougheed. During the same hours, northbound buses on the 41 Allandale route will operate along their regular route to Lougheed and Mapleview, then divert westward along Mapleview, northward along Red Oak and eastward along Sundew, resuming their regular route at Sundew and Marsellus. During these times, northbound buses on the 41 Allandale route will not operate along Mapleview between Lougheed and Marsellus and Marsellus between Mapleview and Sundew. Barrie Transit buses will only serve this diversion on school days.
Adjusting the schedule of a current route
13 Cundles East
In addition to the revised routing, beginning Sunday, August 26, Barrie Transit will change the schedule of all buses on the 13 Cundles East route, so that they leave the downtown Barrie Transit Terminal every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour.
