Guelph service changes start September 2



Guelph Transit will revise and reroute its services, starting Sunday, September 2.

It will: introduce new routes; revise existing routes; decrease the frequency of current routes; re-instate a route to the university; cancel a route; adjust schedules


The changes affect these routes: 1 Woodlawn; 3 Waterloo / Fife; 4 York Road; 6 Auden / Eastview; 7 St. Joseph’s; 8 General Hospital; 9 Stone Road Mall; 10 College / Niska; 22 Conestoga; 23 Paisley / Imperial; 24 Industrial; 51 Gordon; 51a University; 52 University / Kortright; 53 University Express; 54 Arkell; 55 University / College; 56 Rickson; 57 Harvard; 58 Scottsdale; 61 Victor Davis; 71 Perimeter


Introduce new routes

54 Arkell: Starting Sunday, September 2, Guelph Transit will introduce this new route, operating every 40 minutes between the University of Guelph to Victoria Road South and Summerfield Drive. The new route partially replaces the service that buses operating on the 51 Gordon and 51A University route provided. Buses will operate along the new route Mondays to Saturdays from 5:45 a.m. until 12:45 a.m. and Sundays from 9:15 a.m. until 6:45 p.m. Southbound buses operate from the University, westward along the South Ring Road, southward along Gordon Street, eastward along Lowes Road East, southward along Pine Ridge Drive and Farley Drive, eastward along Goodwin Drive, northward along Beaver Meadow Drive, eastward along Farley Drive, northward along Pine Ridge Drive, eastward along Jensen Boulevard and Summerfield Drive to Victoria Road South. Northbound buses operate northward along Victoria, westward along Arkell Road to Arkell and Gordon, then reverse the southbound routing to the University of Guelph. The new route reverses the direction of the current service along Lowndes, continues the current one-way service along Farley between Clairfields and Goodwin and between Beaver Meadow and Pine Ridge, Goodwin, Beaver Meadow and Pine Ridge between Farley (west) and Jensen. The new route introduces service along Pine Ridge (east) between Lowndes and Farley (east), Farley between Pine Ridge (east) and Clairfields, Jensen, Summerfield, Victoria and Arkell. The new route eliminates current service along Pine Ridge between Jensen and Lowndes.

57 Harvard: Starting Sunday, September 2, Guelph Transit will introduce this new route, operating daily every 20 minutes between the University of Guelph and Scottsdale Drive and Stone Road West. The new route supplements the current 52 University / Kortright route. Westbound buses operate southward from the University along College Crescent, westward along Stone Road East, southward along Gordon Street, west- and southward along Harvard Road, westward along Youngman Drive and Ironwood Road and northward along Scottsdale Drive to Stone. Eastbound buses operate eastward along Stone Roads West and East and northward along College Crescent to the University. The new route introduces transit service along Harvard between Gordon and Rickson Avenue

56 Rickson: Starting Sunday, September 2, Guelph Transit will introduce this new route, operating daily every 20 minutes between the University of Guelph and Edinburgh Road South and Stone Road West. The new route supplements the current 52 University / Kortright route. Westbound buses operate from the University southward along College Crescent, westward along Stone Road East, southward along Gordon Street, westward along Kortright Road West, northward along Rickson Avenue, west- and southward along Harvard Road, westward along Youngman Drive and northward along Edinburgh to Stone. Eastbound buses operate eastward along Stone Roads West and East and northward along College Crescent to the University.

58 Scottsdale: Starting Sunday, September 2, Guelph Transit will introduce this new route, operating daily every 20 minutes between the University of Guelph and Ironwood and Kortright Roads. The new route supplements the current 52 University / Kortright route. Westbound buses operate from the University, southward along College Crescent, westward along Stone Roads East and West, and southward along Scottsdale Drive and Ironwood Road to Kortright Road West. Eastbound buses operate eastward along Kortright, northward along Gordon Street, eastward along Stone and northward along College Crescent to the University. The new route introduces transit service along Kortright between Ironwood and Edinburgh Road South.

53 University Express: Starting Sunday, September 2, Guelph Transit will introduce this new non-stop route to supplement the regular 51 Gordon route between St. George’s Square and the University of Guelph. It will operate daily with frequent service.


Revise existing routes

51 Gordon: Starting Sunday, September 2, Guelph Transit buses on the 51 Gordon route will no longer serve the area west of Gordon Street between Arkell and Clair Roads. The new 54 Arkell route will serve this area. Southbound buses operating on the 51 Gordon route will follow their regular route from St. George’s Square to Southgate Drive and Clair Road. Northbound buses will then proceed eastward along Clair, northward along Gosling Gardens, and eastward along Clairfields Drive West to Gordon Street. Then, instead of continuing eastward along Clairfields Drive East, the buses will proceed northward along Gordon to the University of Guelph and St. George’s Square. Guelph Transit will also decrease the frequency of the service during Monday-to-Friday peak periods.

4 York Road: Starting Tuesday, September 4, Guelph Transit will decrease the frequency from 30 minutes to 40 minutes during Monday-to-Friday peak periods, from 7:15 to 9:15 a.m. and 1:15 to 7:15 p.m. At all other times, buses will continue to operate on a 30-minute frequency.


Re-instate a route to the university

55 University-College: On April 20, 2007, Guelph Transit cancelled this circular route, servicng the University of Guelph area “for the summer months”. Starting, Tuesday, September 4, GT will re-instate the route.


Cancel a route

51A University: On April 20, 2007 Guelph Transit cancelled the 51A University route “for the summer months”. GT will not be restoring the route. The revised 51 Gordon and new 54 Arkell routes replace the route.


Adjust schedules

52 University-Kortright: Starting Tuesday, September 4, Guelph Transit will adjust the frequency of the route, which will begin to operate every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday to Friday. The route will operate every 30 minutes at all other times. Starting Sunday, September 2, buses operating on the new 56 Rickson, 57 Harvard and 58 Scottsdale routes will supplement the route.

71 Perimeter: Starting Tuesday, September 4, Guelph Transit will adjust the schedule so that buses operate 15 minutes later from all stops at all times.
