Durham Region service changes started September 3



Durham Region Transit changed its services and routes, starting today, Labour Day, Monday, September 3.


It will: introduce new routes, extend routes, decrease service hours, re-instate services to high schools, cancel routes


The changes affect these routes:

DRT West (Pickering and Ajax): 18 Beach; DRT Centre (Whitby): 301 West Lynde / Otter Creek, 318 Garden / Otter Creek / Whitby Shores; DRT North (Brock, Scugog, Uxbridge): 950 Uxbridge / Port Perry / UOIT, Brock Community Bus, Brock / Port Perry Community Bus, Brock / Uxbridge Community Bus, Scugog Dial-a-bus, Uxbridge East Community Bus, Uxbridge West Community Bus.


Introduce new routes

DRT NorthBrock Community Bus: Starting Tuesday, September 4, DRT will introduce new Monday-to-Friday community bus service. One trip will leave River and Church Streets in Sunderland at 8:30 a.m., then proceed eastward along Church Street Sunderland, northward along Highway 12, eastward along Regional Road 12 and Cameron Street Cannington into Cannington, northward along Laidlaw Street, westward along Allan Street, southward along Ann Street, westward along Cameron and Regional Road 12, northward along Highway 12, westward along Concession 6 Thorah and Main Street Beaverton into Beaverton, southward along Mara Road, westward along Simcoe Street and Main Street West to Nine Mile Road, south along Nine Mile Road to Gillespie Gardens, then return northward along Nine Mile Road, eastward along Main Street West Beaverton and Simcoe Street Beaverton, southward along Highway 12 eastward along Regional Road 12 and Cameron Street Cannington into Cannington, northward along Laidlaw Street, westward along Allan Street, southward along Ann Street, westward along Cameron and Regional Road 12, southward along Highway 12, westward along Church Street Sunderland to River Street Sunderland, then return eastward along Church, southward along Highway 12, westward along Regional Highway 47 and Brock Street Uxbridge and southward along Toronto Street to Wal-mart, arriving at 10:35 a.m. The return trip leaves Wal-mart in Uxbridge at 3:25 p.m. and reverses the route to Sunderland, Cannington, Beaverton, and back to Cannington and Sunderland.

The new route replaces the former Brock-Port Perry and Brock-Uxbridge community bus services that formerly operated every Wednesday, and partially replaces the Uxbridge East and Uxbridge West community buses that formerly operated every Tuesday and Friday.

DRT North905 Uxbridge / Port Perry / UOIT: Starting Tuesday, September 4, DRT will introduce this new Monday-to-Friday route from Uxbridge to Durham College / University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in Oshawa. Southbound buses will begin their routes at Wal-mart in Uxbridge and proceed northward along Toronto Street, eastward along Brock Street Uxbridge and Regional Highway 47, southward along Lakeridge Road, eastward along Reach Street, southward along Simcoe Street, into Port Perry, eastward along Paxton Street, southward along Perry Street, eastward along Queen Street Port Perry, southward along Water Street Port Perry, westward along Scugog Street, southward along Old Simcoe Road, eastward along King Street, northward along Perryview Drive, eastward along Greenway Boulevard and southward along Simcoe Street to Durham College / UOIT. Northbound buses reverse the routing. The buses operate every two hours and replace part of the Scugog Dial-a-Ride service and the former Brock-Uxbridge and Uxbridge East and Uxbridge West community buses.

Extend routes

DRT Centre301 West Lynde / Otter Creek: Starting Tuesday, September 4, DRT will extend this Monday-to-Friday route northward. Northbound buses will operate along their former route to Country Lane and Medland Avenue, then continue northward on Country and eastward along Taunton Road to Cochrane Street. Southbound buses will begin their route at Cochrane and Taunton, and proceed southward along Cochrane, resuming their regular route at Cochrane and Medland. the change restores Monday-to-Friday transit service along Country Lane between Medland and Taunton and introduces transit service along Cochrane between Taunton and Medland. It also removes Monday-to-Friday transit service from Medland Avenue.

DRT Centre318 Garden / Otter Creek / Whitby Shores: Starting Monday, September 3, DRT extended this weekend and holiday route northward. Southbound buses operate along their former route to Taunton Road and Cochrane Street, then continue westward along Taunton, and then southward along Country Lane, resuming their former route at Country and Medland. The change restores weekend transit service to Country Lane between Medland and Taunton and removes weekend transit service from Medland Avenue.

Revise routes

DRT West18 Beach: Starting Tuesday, September 4, DRT will make minor changes to the Monday-to-Friday peak-period routing. Buses will no longer enter Ajax Plaza during peak periods. Northbound peak-period buses will operate along their former route to Harwood Avenue South and Hunt Street, then proceed westward along Hunt, instead of entering the Ajax Plaza terminal. All buses operating on the 18 Beach route during Monday-to-Friday middays and Saturdays will continue to serve Ajax Plaza.

Decrease service hours

DRT NorthScugog Dial-a-bus service: Monday, August 27 was the last day for Monday dial-a-bus service in the Township of Scugog, including Port Perry. Starting Thursday, August 30, DRT will only offer dial-a-bus service on Thursdays. You can call 1-800-263-1916 before 3 p.m. on Wednesday to arrange for a dial-a-ride accessible van to pick you up and drop you off on Thursday. DRT’s new 950 Uxbridge / Port Perry / UOIT route will partially replace the Monday dial-a-ride service.

Re-instate services to high schools

DRT high school specials in all the southern municipalities start operating for the new term on Tuesday, September 4.

Pickering high school specials: Dunbarton High School, Pickering High School, Pine Ridge Secondary School, St. Mary’s Catholic High School

Ajax high school specials: Ajax High School, Denis O’Connor High School, J. Clarke Richardson High School, Notre Dame High School

Whitby high school specials: All Saints Catholic Secondary School, Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School, Henry Street High School, Sinclair Secondary School

Oshawa high school specials: Eastdale Collegiate, O’Neill Collegiate, Paul Dwyer, Pereyma, R.S. McLaughlin Collegiate

Clarington high school specials: Bowmanville High School, Clarington Secondary School, Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, St. Stephens Secondary School

Cancel routes

DRT NorthBrock / Port Perry Community Bus: Wednesday, August 29 was the last day of service for this route. DRT’s new Brock Community Bus and 950 Uxbridge / Port Perry / UOIT route have partially replaced the service.
