Toronto transit changes started September 2



The Toronto Transit Commission revised its routes and services on Sunday, September 2.


It: extended routes, shortened routes, revised routes, decreased service hours, increased service frequency, canceled routes.

The changes affect these routes: 6 Bay, 29 Dufferin (daytime), 30 Lambton, 75 Sherbourne, 85 Sheppard East, 86 Scarborough, 92 Woodbine South, 101 Parc Downsview Park, 172 Cherry Street, 193 Exhibition Rocket, 316 Ossington (overnight), 329 Dufferin (overnight)


Extended routes

29 Dufferin: Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 4, buses operating southward from Wilson Station on the 29 Dufferin route will resume service south of the Dufferin Gate on the 29D “Princes Gate” branch. Buses have not operated on this branch since Friday, August 17, when the Canadian National Exhibition began. Peak-period short-turn buses operating southward from Wingold Avenue continue to turn at the Dufferin Gate Loop. TTC buses last operated along the summertime 29B branch to Ontario Place on Thursday, August 16, and the TTC will not operate buses along that branch until next summer.


Shortened routes

30 Lambton: Today, Monday, September 3 was the last day in 2007 that the TTC operated its summer weekend and holiday extension of the route into High Park. Starting Saturday, September 8, all buses will end their routes at High Park Station at all times.

75 Sherbourne: Today, Monday, September 3 was the last day in 2007 that the TTC operated its summer daily extension of the route to Queens Quay East and Small Street. Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 4, all buses will continue southward along Lower Sherbourne Street beyond Lake Shore Boulevard East to end their routes at Lower Sherbourne and Queens Quay East.

172 Cherry Street: Today, Monday, September 3 was the last day in 2007 that the TTC operated daily late evening service on the 172 Cherry Street route. It was also the last day in 2007 that the TTC operated the route south of Commissioners Street. Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 4, the 172 Cherry Street route will operate between Union Station and Commissioners Street only. Southbound buses operate on their summer route to Cherry and Villiers Streets, then proceed eastward along Villiers, southward along Munition Street and westbound along Commissioners Street to Cherry. Northbound buses begin their route at Commissioners and Cherry and follow the summer route from there to Union Station. On Mondays to Fridays, buses operating on the 172 Cherry Street route will operate every 15 minutes during the evenings only from 8 until 11 p.m. On Saturdays, buses will operate every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. On Sundays, buses will operate every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Buses operating on 72 Pape route travel between Union Station and Commissioners Street during the daytime Mondays to Fridays.


Revised routes

316 Ossington (overnight): Starting Tuesday, September 4, with the closing of the Exhibition, buses will resume their regular route to the Exhibition (East) Loop.

329 Dufferin (overnight): Starting Tuesday, September 4, with the closing of the Exhibition, buses will resume their regular route to the Exhibition (East) Loop.


Decreased service hours

6 Bay: Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 4, the TTC will return the route to its pre-summer schedule. It will eliminate weekend and holiday evening service on the route until summer 2008.

86 Scarborough: Today, Monday, September 3 was the last day in 2007 that the TTC operated weekend and holiday service to the Toronto Zoo on the 86 Scarborough route. Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 4, Monday-to-Friday service to the Zoo will end earlier in the evenings at 7 p.m. to match the earlier closing time of the Zoo. Buses on the 85 Sheppard East route will continue to operate to the Zoo on weekends and holidays.

85 Sheppard East: Starting Saturday, September 8, the TTC will decrease the service hours of both branches of the 85 Sheppard East route that operate to the Zoo on weekends and holidays. The last buses on both branches will leave the Zoo at 7 p.m. to match the Zoo’s earlier closing time.

92 Woodbine South: Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 4, the TTC will no longer operate buses daily after 10 p.m. Late evening service will resume in the summer of 2008. The TTC will also increase the frequency.


Increased service frequency

92 Woodbine South: Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 4, the TTC will increase the Monday-to-Friday peak-period frequency from every 10 minutes to every 9 minutes and increase the Monday-to-Friday midday frequency from every 15 minutes to every 12 minutes. It will also eliminate late evening service on the route.

Canceled routes

193 Exhibition Rocket: Today, Monday, September 3, was the last day in 2007 that the TTC operated this special Exhibition express route from Dundas West Station to the Dufferin Gate Loop.

101 Parc Downsview Park: Today, Monday, September 3, was the last day in 2007 that the TTC operated this seasonal daytime route between Downsview Park and Downsview Station.
