Transit Activists Meet in Durham Region

Reader Karem Allen alerts us to an organizing group of transit activists in Durham Region, who are meeting this Wednesday at 7 p.m. to hear ideas on how to improve public transit in the region, and how to get the area politicians’ attention.

Concerned Citizens for Smart Transit, Durham Region, will meet this Wednesday at 7.p.m. at the Tim Hortons outlet on Highway 2 (821 Dundas Street West, Whitby). The venue is accessible by transit.

“You can spot us easily as I will have my green button on,” says Allen. “We will be inside so no need to use paper throw away cups— have a coffee/tea in a mug.”

Allen is inviting all Durham Region or GO Transit users and notes that Durham Region is the only transit authority bordering Toronto that does not deliver its riders to a major TTC subway or RT station. Her group is already advocating that Durham Region Transit offer regular fare service to the Scarborough Town Centre.

More information can be found at the group’s blog at http://durhamregion.typepad.com/transit_nightmares/, and we wish them all success.
