West Don Lands transit proposal revealed tomorrow

You can glimpse the future of transit service in Toronto tomorrow. A team studying the necessary transit infrastructure to support future waterfront development in the West Don Lands area will reveal its recommended proposal at the final public information centre on the project. The meeting takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, October 11 at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, 106 Trinity Street in Toronto. (The Schoolhouse is just east of King and Parliament Streets).

During this drop-in meeting, the TTC and WaterfronTORONTO staff will present their recommendations for transit service to this area. You can review the various alternatives and the design that the project team prefers. Members of the team will be available to answer your questions about the proposal.

The team is holding this final public information meeting as part of the environmental assessment process. After this meeting, the TTC and Waterfront Toronto will present their recommendations to City Council.

The project team held its first public workshop of the study on March 21, 2007. That workshop resulted in the team selecting streetcar service along Cherry Street between Lake Shore Boulevard East and King Street East to provide transit service in the West Don Lands area.

The team then held a drop-in centre on July 26, when it presented three short-list options for Cherry Street. Afterwards it reviewed a technical assessment of the various options and input from the community and City, TTC and WaterfronTORONTO staff to identify the recommended alternative for Cherry Street.
