Phase 2 of the ongoing TTC and City of Toronto project to reconstruct the transit right-of-way along St. Clair Avenue West will begin the week of October 15.
The next phase will involve removing the existing tracks and roadbed and building a dedicated streetcar right-of-way between McRoberts and Westmount Avenues (basically, between Caledonia Road and Dufferin Street).
The City and TTC expect this next phase to continue until late spring of 2008. After this phase is completed, phase 3 will begin. During phase 3, the TTC and the City will rebuild the remaining portions of the right-of-way: west of McRoberts Avenue and between Vaughan Road and Westmount Avenue.
Buses will continue to operate on the 512 St. Clair route during the construction. The buses will serve curbside stops along St. Clair, instead of the centre-lane stops that streetcars would usually use.
