More than 50 years after it first appeared on a planner’s drawing board, the City of Hamilton’s Red Hill Valley Parkway will open to traffic tomorrow, Saturday, November 16.
The controversial freeway will connect the cross-town Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway (“the Linc”) on Hamilton Mountain to the Queen Elizabeth Way in east-end Hamilton.
The Hamilton Street Railway will reroute the 11 Parkdale route along part of the Parkway starting Monday, November 18.
Northbound buses will operate along their current route to Mud Street and the Parkway, then proceed northward along the Parkway, eastward along Greenhill Avenue, northward along Mount Albion Road and Lawrence Road, resuming their current route at Lawrence and King Street East. Southbound buses will reverse the routing.
Mount Albion Road will no longer act as an arterial road and the City will close Mount Albion to all traffic south of Glendale Golf and Country Club. Buses operating on the 4 Bayfront route will continue to serve Mount Albion south of Greenhill.
