Santa Claus Parades and other seasonal events in Ajax, Aurora, Barrie, Maple (Vaughan), Markham, Milton, Newcastle (Clarington), Port Perry (Scugog), Streetsville (Mississauga), Toronto, Uxbridge and Weston (Toronto) will disrupt transit services this weekend.


The events affect these routes:

Barrie Transit: 10 Livingston, 11 Bayfield, 12 Blake,13 Cundles East, 15 Letitia South, 16 College, 18 St. Vincent, 20 RVH (Royal Victoria Hospital), 24 Edgehill, 28 East Hanmer, 30 Yonge, 31 Essa, 33 Innisdale, 34 Ardagh, 39 Hurst, 41 Allandale.

Durham Region Transit: 281 Beach - Audley South - Puckrin - Elm, 283 Duffins - Harwood, 916 Rossland.

Ajax

On Saturday, November 24 from 5:45 until 8 p.m., the Town of Ajax will close Bayly Street West between Mackenzie Avenue and and Harwood Avenue, Harwood Avenue between Bayly and Achilles Road and other streets in central Ajax to accommodate the town’s first evening Santa Claus Parade.

The parade will affect DRT service near Ajax Plaza.

281 Beach / Audley South / Puckrin / Elm: DRT has not announced detours, but buses will likely operate along their regular route to Station Street and Harwood Avenue South, then detour eastward along Achilles Road and then southward along Harewood Road to King’s Crescent, resuming their regular route eastward along King’s.

282 Duffins / Harwood: DRT has not announced detours but buses will likely operate along their regular route to Harwood Avenue South and Clements Road, then detour westward along Clements Road South, northward along Finlay Avenue, eastward along Bayly Street West, northward along Mackenzie Avenue and eastward along Hunt Street to Dowty Road, resuming their regular route northward along Dowty.

918 Rossland (DRT has confirmed this detour.) Southbound buses operate along their regular route to Harwood Avenue South and Station Street, then detour westward along Station and then southward along Dowty Road to Fairall Street, resuming their regular route westward along Fairall. Northbound buses will reverse this routing.

GO Transit

94 Oshawa Highway 2 Express: Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Kingston Road (Highway 2) and Harwood Avenue, then continue westward along Kingston and then southward along Westney Road South to the Ajax GO Station, where they resume their regular route. Eastbound buses reverse this routing.


Aurora

On Saturday, November 24, the Region of York and the Town of Aurora will close Yonge Street between St. John’s Sideroad and Orchard Heights Boulevard from 3 until 5 p.m., and between Orchard Heights and Industrial Boulevards from 5 until 8 p.m. to accommodate the parade.

GO Transit and YRT will revise bus service during the event.

GO Transit

65 Barrie-Bradford: Southbound buses operate on the regular route to Yonge Street and St. John’s Sideroad, then detour eastward along St. John’s. southward along Industrial Parkway, westward along Wellington Street East, into Aurora GO Station, then resuming their regular route eastward along Wellington. Northbound buses reverse this routing. The Santa Claus Parade in Barrie will also affect service on this route.

YRT

31 Aurora North: From 3 until 5 p.m., eastbound buses will operate along their regular route to Orchard Heights Boulevard and Yonge Street, then continue eastward along Orchard Heights, northward along Old Yonge Street, eastward along St. John’s Sideroad, southward along Industrial Parkway, westward along Wellington Street East, northward along Yonge Street to Orchard Heights, resuming their regular westbound route westward along Orchard Heights. The bus operating along this route will go out of service at Wellington Street East and John West Way at 5:02 p.m.

32 Aurora South: The bus operating on this route will go out of service westbound at Wellington and Bathurst Streets at 5:04 p.m.

Viva Blue:
98 Yonge North: From 3 to 5 p.m., southbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and St. John’s Sideroad, then detour eastward along St. John’s southward along Old Yonge Street and then eastward along Orchard Heights Boulevard to Yonge, resuming their regular route southward along Yonge Street. From 5 to 8 p.m., southbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and St. John’s Sideroad, then detour eastward along St. John’s, southward along Industrial Boulevard to Yonge, resuming their regular southbound route southward along Yonge. Northbound buses will reverse this routing.


Barrie

On Saturday, November 24, after approximately 4 p.m., the City of Barrie will close Essa Road between Highway 400 and Bradford Street, Bradford Street between Essa Road and Dunlop Street, and Dunlop Street between Bradford and Bayfield Streets to accommodate the Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce’s annual Santa Claus Parade.

Barrie Transit and GO Transit will likely detour bus services during the parade.

65 Barrie-Bradford: Although GO Transit has not announced detours, the parade will likely delay or divert this route. The Santa Claus Parade in Aurora will also affect service on this route.


Clarington: See Newcastle


Maple

On Sunday, November 25 from approximately 1 to 4 p.m., the Region of York and the City of Vaughan will close Major Mackenzie Drive between Highway 400 and the Vaughan Civic Centre (east of Keele Street ) to accommodate the annual SantaFest in Maple Parade.

The TTC and YRT will divert regular buses during the event.

TTC

107 Keele North: Northbound buses will operate along their regular route to Keele Street and Fieldgate Drive, then detour eastward along Fieldgate, northward along Barhill Road to Keele, then resume their regular southbound route southward along Keele.

YRT

4 Major Mackenzie: Eastbound buses begin their trips at Jane Street and Springside Drive, then proceed eastward along Springside, south- and eastward along Melville Avenue, eastward along Rutherford Road, northward along Dufferin Street to Major Mackenzie Drive, resuming their regular route eastward along Major Mackenzie. Westbound buses reverse this routing.

20 Jane-Concord: Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Jane Street and Springside Drive, then continue northward along Jane, eastward along Avro Road to Melville Avenue, resuming their regular southbound route southward along Melville.

Free shuttle buses will also operate between Canada’s Wonderland and the Vaughan Civic Centre. Buses will leave Wonderland every 15 minutes from noon until 2 p.m. Buses will leave the Civic Centre every 15 minutes from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m.


Markham

The Markham Festival of Lights and the 35th annual Markham Santa Claus Parade take place this weekend.


Markham Festival of Lights

On Friday, November 23 from approximately 4 until 11 p.m., the Region of York and the Town of Markham will close Main Street between Parkway Avenue and Highway 7 to accommodate the event.

The TTC and YRT will detour bus services.

TTC

102 Markham Road: Southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street and Parkway Avenue, then detour eastward along Parkway, southward along Wooten Way and then westward along Highway 7 to Main, resuming their regular southbound route southward along Main. Northbound buses reverse this routing. The Santa Claus Parade in Markham will also affect this route.

YRT

1 Highway 7: Westbound buses operate along their regular route. Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Highway 7 and Main Street, then continue eastward along Highway 7, northward along Bur Oak Avenue and then westward along Church Street to the Markham-Stouffville Hospital. The Santa Claus Parade in Markham may also affect this route.


Markham Santa Claus Parade

On Saturday, November 24 from approximately 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., the Region of York and the Town of Markham will close Highway 7 from Markville Mall (west of McCowan Road) to Main Street Markham and Main Street between Highway 7 and 16th Avenue.

GO Transit, the TTC and YRT will divert buses during the event.

GO Transit

71 Stouffville: Southbound buses will operate along their regular route to Mount Joy GO Station, then proceed southward along Highway 48 (Markham Road / Main Street), westward along Bur Oak Avenue and then southward along McCowan Road to Bullock Drive, resuming their regular route westward along Bullock. The parade in Uxbridge will also divert this route.

TTC

102 Markham Road: Southbound buses start their trips at Galsworthy Drive and Highway 7, operating eastward along Highway 7 to Main Street Markham, resuming their regular route southward along Main. Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Main and Highway 7, then detour westward along Highway 7, northward along Jonquil Crescent, westward along Vanderbilt Road and southward along Galsworthy, ending their trips at Galsworthy and Highway 7. The Markham Festival of Lights will also affect this route.

YRT

1 Highway 7: Westbound buses start their trips in the Markville Mall parking lot. Eastbound buses end their trips in the Markville Mall parking lot. Shuttle buses will carry local passengers to and from points east of Markville. Westbound shuttles start their trips at Markham-Stouffville Hospital, then proceed eastward along Church Street, southward along Bur Oak Avenue, westward along Highway 7, southward along the Box Grove Bypass, westward along 14th Avenue and then northward along McCowan Road into the Markville Mall parking lot. Eastbound shuttle buses reverse this routing. The Markham Festival of Lights will also affect this route.

522 Markham Community Bus: YRT has not announced detours for this route which will would usually cross Main Street on Saturday afternoons.

41 Markham Local: Westbound buses will operate from Markham-Stouffville Hospital and proceed eastward along Church Street, north- and westward along Bur Oak Avenue, and then southward along Mingay Avenue to 16th Avenue, resuming their regular route southward along Stone Mason Gate. Eastbound buses will reverse this routing. Buses operating on the 41 Markham Local route will carry passengers that ordinarily would travel on the 85 Rutherford-16th Avenue route to reach Markham Stouffville Hospital. During the parade, passengers can transfer between buses on the two routes at 16th Avenue and Stone Mason Gate.

85 Rutherford-16th Avenue: Westbound buses begin their trips at Stone Mason Gate and 16th Avenue and then proceed along their regular route westward along 16th. Eastbound buses follow their regular route to 16th Avenue and Quarry Stone Drive then detour southward along Quarry Stone, eastward along Raymerville Drive and northward along Stone Mason Gate to 16th Avenue, where the buses will end their trips. Passengers who wish to travel east of Stone Mason Gate can transfer to a 41 Markham Local bus at Stone Mason and 16th.


Milton

On Sunday, November 25 from approximately 1 to 5 p.m., the Town of Milton will close parts of Main Street Milton to accommodate this year’s Santa Claus Parade.

During the event, GO Transit is diverting bus service on the 21 Milton route so that all trips begin and end at Milton GO Station.


Mississauga: See Streetsville


Newcastle

On Sunday, November 25 from approximately 4 to 7 p.m., the Municipality of Clarington will close King Avenue Newcastle between Baldwin and Arthur Streets to accommodate the Santa Claus Parade.

GO Transit has not announced detours, but the event will likely delay or divert buses operating on the 09 Lakeshore East route. The Grey Cup game in Toronto will also affect train service on the 09 Lakeshore East route.


Port Perry

On Saturday, November 24, from approximately 4 to 7 p.m., the Regin of Durahm and the Township of Scugog will close Reach Street between Port Perry Fairgrounds and Simcoe Street and Simcoe Street between Reach and Queen Streets to accommodate the Scugog Chamber of Commerce Santa Claus Parade.

GO Transit will divert buses on its 81 Port Perry route during the event. Southbound buses from Beaverton will operate along their regular route to Reach Street and Old Simcoe Road, then detour southward along Old Simcoe to Scuogog Street, resuming their regular route westward along Scugog (Highway 7A). Northbound buses to Beaverton will reverse the routing.


Scugog: See Port Perry


Streetsville

On Sunday, November 25, from approximately noon until 3 p.m., The City of Mississauga will close Queen Street Streetsville between Brittania Road West and Church Street to accommodate the Streetsville Business Improvement Area’s annual Santa Claus Parade.

Mississauga Transit will divert transit services during the event.

10 Bristol-Britannia: Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Britannia Road west and Erin Mills Parkway, then detour northward along Erin Mills and Mississauga Road, eastward along Argentia Road, southward along Creditview Road and then westward along Britannia to River Grove Avenue, resuming their regular route southward along River Grove. Westbound buses reverse this routing.

39 Britannia: Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Britannia Road west and Erin Mills Parkway, then detour northward along Erin Mills and Mississauga Road, and then eastward along Argentia Road to Creditview Road, resuming their regular route southward along Creditview. Westbound buses reverse this routing.

9 Rathburn-Miller’s Grove: Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Vista Drive and Thomas Street, then detour westward along Thomas, southward along Erin Mills Parkway, westward along Erin Centre Boulevard, into the Erin Mills Centre Terminal, then continue southward along Erin Mills and then eastward along Eglinton Avenue West to Mississauga Road, resuming their regular route eastward along Eglinton. Westbound buses reverse this routing.


Toronto (see also Weston)

The Canadian Football League’s 95th annual Grey Cup game takes place in Toronto this year and GO Transit will offer fans extra train service to help them get to and from the game.

09 Lakeshore East: In addition to regular hourly service, GO will run extra trains from and to Oshawa GO Station. An additional train will leave Oshawa at 4:11 p.m. making all stops, arriving at Union Station at 5:07 p.m. GO will also add two trains in addition to the regular hourly service to help customers get home after the game. You can connect with 09 Lakeshore East GO buses heading to Newcastle from Oshawa Station. The Santa Claus Parade in Newcastle will also affect bus service on this route.

01 Lakeshore West: In addition to regular hourly service, GO will run extra trains from and to Aldershot GO Station. An additional train will leave Aldershot at 4:38 p.m. making all stops, arriving at Union Station at 5:37 p.m. GO will also add two trains in addition to the regular hourly service to help customers get home after the game. You can connect with 01 Lakeshore West GO buses heading to the Hamilton GO Centre from Aldershot Station.


Uxbridge

On Saturday, November 24 from approximately 9 a.m. until noon, the Region of York and the Township of Uxbridge will close Brock Street between Centre and Main Streets to accommodate the annual Uxbridge Santa Claus Parade.

GO Transit will divert buses on during the event.

71 Stouffville: The bus leaving Union Station at 9:40 a.m. and arriving at Uxbridge at approximately 10:55 a.m. will operate along its regular route to Toronto Street South and Elgin Park Drive, then detour eastbound along Elgin Park, northbound along the 7th Concession Road / Main Street South, and then westbound along Mill Street to Toronto Street. The bus leaving Uxbridge at 11:40 a.m. towards Union Station will start its trip from Mill and Toronto Streets, then proceed southward along Toronto Street on its regular route. The parade in Markham will also affect service on this route.


Vaughan: See Maple


Weston

On Sunday, November 25 from approximately noon until 4 p.m. the City of Toronto will close Weston Road between Church Street and Sidney Belsen Crescent to accommodate the Weston Village Business Improvement Area’s 28th annual Santa Claus Parade.
