ATU members reject agreement with GO

Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1587 have rejected a tentative contract settlement that GO Transit reached earlier this month with its bus drivers and ticket agents.

The workers, who also include maintenance staff and office workers, have been without a contract since June 1. They rejected GO’s November 27 offer by 96 per cent and a strike was imminent until the tentative agreement was reached.

GO’s website says that it has asked the union for 48 hours’ notice of any job action so that customers can make other transportation plans. GO says it would not operate bus service during a strike, but plans to operate regular train service.
