ATU job action will halt GO buses on January 7

The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) has advised GO Transit that job action will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2008. ATU’s Local 1587 says that bus drivers will finish their shift that night so that no passengers are stranded.

On its website, GO says that it will keep working with the ATU to try to reach a settlement before the strike deadline date. Local 1587 represents most GO employees including bus drivers, ticket sellers, maintenance personnel and office staff.

GO would not operate bus service during a strike, but it plans to keep running regular GO train service. (Members of other unions maintain and operate GO trains.) GO is advising bus customers to consider travelling by local transit or carpooling if a strike occurs. Train customers should buy monthly passes in advance to avoid ticketing line-ups during a strike.
