YRT revises service on January 27



Starting Sunday, January 27, York Region Transit will will extend Viva service eastward to Markham-Stouffville Hospital, revise several routes in Aurora and make many other changes to its services to passengers.

Specifically, YRT will: introduce new routes; extend current routes; shorten current routes; revise current routes; increase the service frequency of a current route; decrease the service frequency of a current route; add more trips to current routes; cancel trips on current routes; increase the service hours of current routes; decrease the service hours of a current route; and adjust the schedules of current routes.


The changes affect these routes:

Viva blue; Viva green; Viva pink; Viva purple; 1 Highway 7; 2 Milliken; 2A 14th Avenue; 4 Major Mackenzie; 8 Kennedy; 9 Ninth Line; 13 Islington; 15 Stouffville Local; 18 Bur Oak; 20 Jane-Concord; 22 King City; 31 Aurora North; 33 Wellington; 41 Markham Local; 77 Highway 7-Centre; 82 Valleymede-Spadina; 83 Trench; 88 Bathurst; 90 Leslie South; 91A Bayview South; 98 Yonge North; 99 Yonge South; 98/99 Yonge Street; 215 Stouffville GO Shuttle; 300 Business Express; 301 Markham Express; 340 Bayview Express; 409 Markham District High School Special via Bur Oak; 423 Newmarket High School Special; 426 G. Introduce new routes

426 G. W. Williams High School Special: Starting Monday, January 28, buses will operate from Bayview Avenue and Hollidge Boulevard to G. W. Williams High School in the morning and from the school to Bayview and Hollidge in the afternoon along the current 31 Aurora North branch that serves the school. In the morning, a bus will leave Hollidge and Bayview at 7:46 a.m. and proceed eastward along Borealis Avenue, northward along Conover Avenue, westward along Hartwell Way and Pederson Drive, southward along Gateway Drive, eastward along Earl Stewart Drive, southward along McMaster Avenue, west- and southward along Hollandview Trail, eastward along Hollidge Boulevard, southward along John West Way, westward along Wellington Street East, southward along Berczy Street, westward along Metcalfe Street, southward along Edward Street and westward along Dunning Street to Dr. G. W. Williams High School. Another bus will leave Bayview and Pederson at 7:45 a.m. and follow the route to the school. Both buses will arrive at the school at 8:03 a.m. In the afternoon, buses will leave the school at 3:12 and 3:15 p.m. and reverse the morning route to John West Way and Hollidge, then continue eastward along Hollidge and Borealis, northward along Conover, westward along Hartwell and Pederson, southward along Gateway, eastward along Earl Stewart, southward along McMaster, west- and southward along Hollandview, eastward along Hollidge and then southward along John West Way to Wellington, arriving at 3:33 and 3:36 p.m.

451 Langstaff Secondary School Special: Starting Monday, January 28, this new high school special will replace the Special #2 trip on the current 444 Langstaff Secondary School Special route. At 2:45 p.m., a bus will leave the school and proceed southward along Pearson Avenue, east- and southward along Garden Avenue, eastward along Highway 7 and northward along Valleymede Drive and Spadina Road to Major Mackenzie Drive.

Extend current routes

409 Markham District High School Special via Bur Oak: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will extend the route further west along Bur Oak Avenue to Kennedy Road. YRT will also adjust the schedule of the route.

Viva purple: Starting Sunday, January 27, YRT will extend Viva service along Highway 7, Ninth Line, Church Street Markham and Butternut Lane east of McCowan Road to the Markham Stouffville Hospital, seven days a week. Buses operating on the extended route will serve current YRT stops and YRT will also locate new VivaNow fare validating machines at Highway 7 and Main Street Markham and at Highway 7 and Wooten Way. YRT will revise the 1 Highway 7, 2A 14th Avenue and 85 Rutherford-16th Avenue routes to reduce the number of buses entering into the Markham Stouffville Hospital grounds.

33/33A Wellington:

On Monday, January 21, YRT extended the route so that buses serve the new Wal-Mart near Wellington Street East and Highway 404. Eastbound buses operate along their former route to State Farm, then proceed southward along First Commerce Drive, passing Wal-Mart, and then westward along Wellington to Leslie, where the buses resume their former westbound route. YRT has also increased the service hours of the route, so buses will operate every 30 minutes, Mondays to Saturdays from approximately 5:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. between State Farm and Wellington Street West and McDonald Drive.

Starting Monday, January 28, YRT buses will begin to operate along a new 33A Wellington branch to serve parts of eastern Aurora that buses on the 31 Aurora North route currently serve. These buses will operate every 30 minutes, Mondays to Saturdays from approximately 5:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. between McDonald Drive and Bayview Avenue. Eastbound buses will operate north- and eastward along McDonald Drive, southward along Haida Drive, eastward along Wellington Streets West and East, northward along John West Way and then eastward along Hollidge Boulevard to Bayview. Westbound buses will proceed eastward along Borealis Avenue, northward along Conover Avenue, westward along Hartwell Way, northward along Bayview, through the parking lot of The Canadian Superstore, southward along Earl Stewart Drive, westward along Pederson Drive, southward along Gateway Drive, eastward along Earl Stewart, southward along McMaster Avenue, west- and southward along Hollandview Trail, eastward along Hollidge, southward along John West Way, and then westward along Wellington to McDonald.

During Monday-to-Friday morning rush hours, westbound buses on the 33A Wellington branch will divert along Industrial Parkway into the Aurora GO Station. During Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours, eastbound buses on the 33A Wellington branch will divert along Industrial Parkway into the Aurora GO Station.

A new 426 G. W. Williams High School Special will also connect the Bayview / Hollidge area to Dr. G. W. Williams High School.


Shorten current routes

31 Aurora North:

Starting Monday, January 28, YRT buses on this route will not operate east of the Aurora GO Station. Southbound buses begin their trips at Yonge Street and St. John’s Sideroad, then proceed eastward along St. John’s, southward along Old Yonge Street, westward along Orchard Heights Boulevard, southward along Whispering Pine Trail, eastward along Aurora Heights Drive, southward along Haida Drive and then eastward along Wellington Streets West and East to Aurora GO Station. Northbound buses begin their trips at the station then proceed eastward along Wellington, northward along Haida, westward along Aurora Heights, northward along Bathurst Street, eastward along Orchard Heights and then northward along Yonge to St. John’s.

One southbound trip will serve Aurora High School, leaving St. John’s at 8:45 a.m. and proceeding along the regular route to Haida and McDonald Drive, then diverting west- and southward along McDonald to the high school at Wellington Street, then continuing eastward along Wellington to the GO Station. One northbound trip will leave the high school at 3 p.m., then proceed north- and eastward along McDonald to Haida, and then follow the regular route to St. John’s.

A new branch of the 33 Wellington route will serve those areas of eastern Aurora that buses on the 31 Aurora North route currently serve. A new 426 G. W. Williams High School Special route will also serve eastern Aurora and Dr. G. W. Williams High School, replacing the 31 Aurora North branch that currently serves the high school.

YRT will also decrease the service hours of the route so that buses operate during Monday-to-Friday rush hours only.


Revise current routes

2A 14th Avenue: Starting Sunday, January 27, buses will end their trips by traveling around an on-street loop, instead of into the Markham Stouffville Hospital grounds. Eastbound buses will operate along their regular route to Ninth Line and Highway 7, then divert eastward along Highway 7, northward along Bur Oak Avenue, westward along Church Street to Ninth, resuming their regular westbound route southward along Ninth. Buses operating on the Viva purple line will replace 2A 14th Avenue service along Butternut Lane into the Markham Stouffville Hospital grounds. Passengers heading to or from the hospital can use the stop on Church Street, west of Country Glen Road. YRT will also adjust the schedule of the route.

1 Highway 7: Starting Sunday, January 27, buses will end their trips by traveling around an on-street loop, instead of into the Markham Stouffville Hospital grounds. Eastbound buses will operate along their regular route to Ninth Line and Church Street Markham, then proceed eastward along Church, southward along Bur Oak Avenue and then westward along Highway 7 to Ninth Line before proceeding along their regular westbound route westward along Highway 7. Buses operating on the Viva purple line will replace 1 Highway 7 service along Butternut Lane into the Markham Stouffville Hospital grounds. Passengers heading to or from the hospital can use the stop on Church Street, west of Country Glen Road. YRT will also adjust the schedule of the route.

20 Jane-Concord: Starting Monday, January 28, some Monday-to-Friday trips on this route will serve Edilcan Drive, Creditstone Road and Locke Street. Southbound buses leaving Teston Road and Jane Street at 3 and 10:46 p.m. will operate along their regular route to Jane and Locke Streets, then divert eastward along Locke, southward along Creditstone and westward along Edilcan to Jane, resuming their regular route westward along Courtland Avenue. Northbound buses leaving York University at 5:56 and 2:01 p.m. will follow their regular route to Courtland and Jane, then divert eastward along Edilcan, northward along Creditstone and then westward along Locke to Jane, resuming their regular route northward along Jane. YRT will also adjust the schedule of the route.

22 King City: Starting Monday, January 28, some Monday-to-Friday trips on this route will detour along Kingshill Road to serve King City GO Station so that passengers can connect with GO Transit trains on the 65 Barrie route. Southbound buses will leave Seneca College’s King Campus at 5:57, 6:27, 6:57 and 7:27 a.m. and serve the station. Northbound trips will leave Maple Community Centre at 4:50, 5:20, 5:50 and 6:45 p.m. to serve the station. YRT will also adjust the schedule of the route.

85 Rutherford-16th Avenue: Starting Sunday, January 27, buses will end their trips by traveling around an on-street loop, instead of into the Markham Stouffville Hospital grounds. Eastbound buses will operate along their regular route to Ninth Line and Church Street Markham, then proceed eastward along Church, northward along Bur Oak Avenue and then westward along 16th Avenue to Ninth, before proceeding along their regular westbound route westward along 16th. Buses operating on the Viva purple line will replace buses operating on the 86 Rutherford-16th Avenue route along Butternut Lane into the Markham Stouffville Hospital grounds. Passengers heading to or from the hospital can use the stop on Church Street, west of Country Glen Road.

15 Stouffville Local:

Starting Monday, January 28, buses will operate along a circular route, eastbound along Main Street Stouffville and westbound along Hoover Park Drive. Starting at Wal-Mart, buses will proceed southward through the parking lot, westward along Sam’s Way, northward along Highway 48, eastward along Main Street, southward along Ninth Line South, and then enter into Parkview Village. After leaving Parkview, buses will proceed northward along Ninth, eastward along Main, southward along Park Drive South, westward along Burkholder Street and southward along Franklin Avenue into the Lebovic Recreation Centre. After leaving Lebovic, buses will operate northward along Franklin, eastward along Burkholder, northward along Park and eastward along Main to Eastern Gate Crescent.

Buses will then loop clockwise around Eastern Gate, then proceed westward along Main, southward along Tenth Line South, westward along Hoover Park, northward along Ninth and into Parkview Village. After leaving Parkview, buses will proceed southward along Ninth and westward along Hoover Park and then into the Wal-Mart parking lot.

YRT will also increase the service hours so that buses on the route will start operating during the early Monday-to-Friday evenings until approximately 8 p.m.


Increase the service frequency of a current route

Viva blue: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will increase the frequency of service during early Monday-to-Friday evenings. Buses will operate every 10 minutes.


Decrease the service frequency of a current route

300 Business Express: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will reduce the frequency of the service to every 20 minutes during Monday-to-Friday morning rush hours and to every 30 minutes during Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hours. YRT will also cancel a trip, and adjust the schedule of the route.


Add trips to current routes

88 Bathurst: Buses operating on new Monday-to-Friday southbound trips will leave Elgin West Community Centre at 3:07 and 3:40 p.m., arriving at Finch Station at approximately 3:07 and 4:22 p.m. A bus operating on a new Monday-to-Friday southbound trip will leave Seneca College’s King Campus at 5:15 p.m., arriving at Finch Station at approximately 6:10 p.m.

91A Bayview South: A bus will operate on a new Monday-to-Friday southbound trip leaving Bayview Avenue and Woodriver Drive s at 8:20 a.m. and arriving at Finch Station at 9:15 a.m. A bus operating on the 340 Bayview Express route currently serves this trip.

77 Highway 7-Centre: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will add three new trips to this route. A bus operating on new Monday-to-Friday eastbound trip will leave Bramalea City Centre terminal at 5:13 p.m., arriving at Finch Station at approximately 6:38 p.m. A bus operating on a new Monday-to-Friday westbound trip leaving Promenade Terminal at 2:20 p.m. will arrive at Bramalea City Centre at approximately 3:12 p.m. A bus operating on a new Monday to Friday westbound trip leaving Highway 7 and Jane Street at 4:05 p.m. will arrive at Bramalea City Centre at approximately 4:54 p.m. YRT will also adjust the schedule of the route.

13 Islington: More passengers want to travel to or from Kleinburg, so, starting Monday, January 28, YRT will add two new trips to this route. A bus operating on a new Monday-to-Friday southbound trip will leave Islington Avenue and Highway 27 in Kleinburg at 8 a.m., arriving at the Steeles / Islington bus loop at approximately 8:30 a.m. A bus operating on a new northbound trip will leave the Steeles / Islington bus loop at 7:25 a.m., arriving in Kleinburg at approximately 7:55 a.m.

90 Leslie South: Starting Monday, January 28, buses will make more trips to Richmond Green High School during the Monday-to-Friday rush hours. Southbound buses leaving Seneca College’s King Campus at 8:20 a.m., 3:20 and 3:50 p.m. will operate along the regular route to Elgin Mills Road and Leslie Street, then detour northward along Leslie to Richmond Green. After leaving the school, the buses will proceed southward along Leslie to Elgin Mills, then proceed along the regular route southward along Leslie. Northbound buses leaving Don Mills subway Station at 8:10 a.m. and 3:10 p.m. will operate along the regular route to Leslie and Elgin Mills, then continue northward along Leslie to Richmond Green. After leaving the college, the buses will proceed southward along Leslie to Elgin Mills, resuming their regular route westward along Elgin Mills. YRT will also increase the hours of service to Don Mills subway Station.

82 Valleymede-Spadina: A bus operating on a new Monday-to-Friday northbound trip will leave St. Robert High School at 3 p.m., arriving at the Wal-Mart plaza bus stop at 3:30 p.m. YRT will also adjust the schedule of the route.


Cancel trips for current routes

340 Bayview Express: A bus will no longer operate on the trip that currently leaves Woodriver Drive and Bayview Avenue at 8:20 a.m. after Friday, January 25. Starting Monday, January 28, the bus on this trip will operate on the 91A Bayview South route.

300 Business Express: A bus will no longer operate on the trip that currently leaves the loop at Town Centre Boulevard South at 7:06 p.m. after Friday, January 25. Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will also decrease the frequency of the service and adjust the schedule of this route.

444 Langstaff Secondary School Special: A bus on the 444 Langstaff Secondary School Special route will no longer operate the Monday-to-Friday trip that currently leaves the school at 2:45 p.m. after Friday, January 25. Starting Monday, January 28, a bus operating on the new 451 Langstaff Secondary School Special route will serve this trip.

445 St. Robert High School Special: A bus will no longer operate on the Monday-to-Friday trip that currently leaves St. Robert’s at 2:45 a.m. after Friday, January 25. Starting Monday, January 28, a bus will operate on a new Monday-to-Friday northbound trip from St. Robert’s on the 82 Valleymede-Spadina route.


Increase the service hours of current routes:

90 Leslie South: Starting Monday, January 28, buses will operate south of Steeles Avenue to Seneca College’s Newnham Campus and Don Mills Station Mondays to Fridays from approximately 6:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.and Saturdays from approximately 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. On Sundays, buses will end their trips at Steeles Avenue. YRT will also add trips to the route.

15 Stouffville Local: Starting Monday, January 28, buses will operate until 8 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Buses on Monday-to-Friday trips that currently operate from Stouffville GO Station on the 215 Stouffville GO Shuttle route at 7:10 and 7:35 p.m. will instead operate on the 15 Stouffville Local route.

33 Wellington: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will begin to operate buses on the route Mondays to Saturdays from approximately 5:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. YRT will also revise the route.


Decrease the service hours of a current route

31 Aurora North: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will begin to operate buses on the route during Monday-to-Friday rush hours only. A new branch of the 33 Wellington route will serve northeastern Aurora and the new 426 G. W. Williams High School Special route will link Dr. G. W. Williams High School to northeastern Aurora.


Adjust the schedules of current routes

18 Bur Oak: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday eastbound trip leaving Bur Oak Avenue and McCowan Road at 3 p.m. will leave Angus Glen Community Centre at 2:50 p.m.

300 Business Express: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday trip that currently leaves bus loop on Town Centre Boulevard South at 6:35 p.m. will leave at 6:20 p.m. YRT will also decrease the frequency of service and cancel a trip on the route.

2A 14th Avenue: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will make minor schedule adjustments for the Monday-to-Friday westbound trip leaving Markham-Stouffville Hospital at 3:05 p.m. The bus operating on 3:50 p.m. eastbound tripthat currently leaves Woodbine Avenue at 3:50 p.m. will leave five minutes earlier at 3:45 p.m. YRT will also revise the route.

1 Highway 7: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will adjust the first Monday-to-Friday westbound trip so that passengers can make better connections at Richmond Hill Centre Terminal. It will also cancel the limited afternoon service to the Langstaff GO bus loop when it opens the new pedestrian bridge between Langstaff GO Station and Richmond Hill Centre Terminal. It will make minor schedule adjustments to accommodate GO train connections at Richmond Hill Centre Terminal and train passengers will now cross the bridge to connect with buses on the 1 Highway 7 route. Starting Saturday, February 2, YRT will also adjust the Saturday schedule. YRT will also revise the route.

77 Highway 7-Centre: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday eastbound trip leaving Martin Grove Road and Highway 7 at 2:40 p.m. will leave from the bus stop in front of Holy Cross Catholic Academy two minutes earlier at 2:38 p.m. This adjustment is on a temporary, trial basis and will allow passengers to transfer to buses operating on the 13 Islington route at 2:45 p.m. The bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday westbound trip that currently leaves Finch GO Bus Terminal at 2:15 p.m. will leave five minutes earlier at 2:10 p.m. and will arrive at Bramalea City Centre terminal at approximately 3:35 p.m. YRT will also add trips to the route.

20 Jane-Concord: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday southbound trip currently leaving Teston Road at 1:30 p.m. will leave five minutes earlier at 1:25 p.m. The bus operating on the Monday-to Friday northbound trip currently leaving York University at 2:11 p.m. will leave 10 minutes earlier at 2:01 p.m. YRT will also revise the route.

8 Kennedy: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will adjust the schedule of bus operating between the rush hours Mondays to Fridays to help passengers connect with westbound buses on the 1 Highway 7 route.

22 King City: Minor schedule adjustments, starting Monday, January 28. YRT will also revise the route.

4A Major Mackenzie: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday westbound trip currently leaving Angus Glen Community Centre at 6:18 a.m. will leave two minutes later at 6:20 a.m. and arrive at Weston Road at 6:54 a.m. Leaving two minutes later will help passengers to connect with a bus operating on the 18 Bur Oak route.

301 Markham Express: Starting Monday, January 28, YRT will make minor schedule adjustments for the Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush hour. The buses will continue to leave Finch GO Bus Terminal at the same time.

409 Markham District High School via Bur Oak: To reduct overcrowding at the Markham District High School bus stop, trips on this route will leave at 3 and 3:05 p.m.

41 Markham Local: Minor weekday schedule adjustments start Monday, January 28. The weekday midday frequency will now be every 40 minutes.

2 Milliken: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on a Monday-to-Friday eastbound trip, currently leaving Finch GO Bus Terminal at 6:15 a.m., will leave five minutes earlier at 6:10 a.m. The bus operating on a Monday-to-Friday eastbound trip, currently leaving Finch GO Bus Terminal at 6:59 a.m., will leave at 7 a.m. To help passengers connect with GO train arriving at Milliken GO Station at 5:17 p.m., the bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday eastbound trip leaving Finch GO Station at 4:45 p.m. will divert to Old Kennedy Rd. and Steeles Ave. The bus operating on the Monday to Friday eastbound trip leaving Finch at 4:30 p.m. will no longer divert to Milliken Station.

423 Newmarket High School Special: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on the trip that currently leaves the school at 2:45 p.m. will leave five minutes later at 2:50 p.m.

9 Ninth Line: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday southbound trip currently leaving Parkview Village at 5:45 p.m. will leave five minutes later at 5:50 p.m.

449 Richmond Green High School Special: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on the trip that currently leaves Woodbine Avenue and Stony Hill Boulevard at 8:30 a.m. will leave ten minutes later at 8:40 a.m.

215 Stouffville GO Shuttle: Starting Monday, January 28, the bus operating on the trip that currently leaves Stouffville GO Station at 5:22 p.m. will leave at 5:25 p.m. The buses operating on trips that currently leave at 7:10 and 7:35 p.m. will still leave then from Stouffville GO Station, but will operate on the 15 Stouffville Local route.

83/83A Trench: Minor schedule adjustments start Monday, January 28. The bus operating on the Monday-to-Friday northbound trip that currently leaves Richmond Hill Centre Terminal at 2:50 p.m. will leave five minutes later at 2:55 p.m. The earlier trip provides passengers with better connections to a northbound bus operating on the 91 Bayview South route at Bayview Avenue and Redstone Road.

82 Valleymede-Spadina: Starting Monday, January 28, buses operating on the first two Monday-to-Friday northbound trips will no longer leave St. Robert High School but will leave East Beaver Creek Road and Highway 7. YRT will also add a trip to the route.

Viva green: On November 11, YRT adjusted the service by approximately five minutes on some southbound and northbound trips.

Viva pink: Starting Monday, January 28, The last southbound Monday-to-Friday Viva pink bus that currently leaves Unionville GO Station at 7 p.m. will now leave at 7:10 p.m.

98 Yonge North: Starting Sunday, January 27, YRT will combine late evening trips for the 98 Yonge North and 99 Yonge South routes into one schedule. The last southbound bus operating on the 98 Yonge North route will leave Green Lane at 11:05 p.m. and continue southward beyond Bernard Terminal, operating on the 99 Yonge South route. The last northbound bus will leave Bernard Terminal at 10:50 p.m.

99 Yonge South: Starting Sunday, January 27, YRT will combine late evening trips for the 98 Yonge North and 99 Yonge South routes into one schedule. The last southbound bus operating on the 99 Yonge South route will leave Bernard Terminal 11:48 p.m. The last northbound bus will leave Finch GO Bus Terminal at 10 p.m. and will continue northward beyond Bernard Terminal, operating on the 98 Yonge North route.

98/99 Yonge Street: Starting Sunday, January 27, YRT will combine late evening trips on the 98 Yonge North and 99 Yonge South routes into once schedule. The first southbound buson the combined route will leave Yonge Street and Green Lane at 11:49 p.m. and the first northbound bus will leave Finch GO Bus Terminal at 10:30 p.m. The last southbound bus will leave Newmarket GO Terminal at 1:40 a.m. and the last northbound bus will leave Finch GO Bus Terminal at 2:15 a.m. and will end its trip at Bernard Terminal.
