Bathurst track repair affects transit service

Update: March 28, 9:30 p.m.: Transit Toronto reader Robert Lubinski points out an error in this post. The bridge repairs began at 9 p.m. and not 9 a.m. as I reported earlier. Thanks to Robert for updating us and my apologies for the error. — RM

Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 28 and continuing until about 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, the TTC and City of Toronto will repair the streetcar tracks along the Bathurst Street bridge south of Front Street West.

The TTC will revise service on two routes during the track-repair project: 509 Harbourfront, 511 Bathurst.

509 Harbourfront:
The TTC will operate more buses along the route. They will run between Spadina and Wolseley Loops through the Exhibition (East) Loop.

South- and eastbound buses will begin their trips at Wolseley Loop, just north of Queen Street West on the east side of Bathurst Street. They will proceed:

southward along Bathurst;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard West;
northward along Strachan Avenue;
westward along the streetcar right-of- way through Exhibition Loop;
eastward along the right-of-way;
southward along Strachan;
eastward along Lake Shore;
southward along Bathurst;
eastward along Queens Quay West; and then
north- and westward through the Spadina / Queens Quay Loop.

North- and westbound buses will begin their trips at the Spadina / Queens Quay Loop and proceed southward along Lower Spadina Avenue and then reverse the south- and eastbound route to Wolseley Loop.

511 Bathurst:
The TTC will continue to operate streetcars between Bathurst and Union Stations, but will revise the route.

South- and eastbound cars will operate along their regular route to Bathurst Street and Queen Street West, then divert:

eastward along Queen;
southward along Spadina and Lower Spadina Avenues;
eastward along Queens Quay West; and then
northward through the tunnel under Bay Street to Union Station.

North- and westbound cars will reverse this routing.

You can see a map of the revised routings here.

Repairing this section of track is one of the final stages of the ongoing project to rebuild the streetcar tracks along Fleet Street. Starting Sunday, March 30 at about 9 a.m., the TTC will resume regular streetcar service along Fleet, with 511 Bathurst cars operating between Bathurst Station and the Exhibition Loop. Streetcars will replace the buses on the 509 Harbourfront route between the Exhibition Loop and Union Station.
