Revised St. Clair West service starts March 30

Starting Sunday, March 30, the TTC will have completed its longterm project to rehabilitate the bus and streetcar platform level of St. Clair West Station.

At the same time, it will continue its project to rebuild the tracks along St. Clair Avenue West between McRoberts and Westmount Avenues and prepare for the next phase of the St. Clair project between Vaughan Road and Westmount and for an upcoming project to rebuild the tracks along Bathurst Street between St. Clair and Bathurst Station.

The projects affect these routes: 7A Bathurst (Wilson Station to St. Clair West Station), 7B Bathurst (St. Clair West Station to Bathurst Station), 7C Bathurst (Steeles to St. Clair West Station), 33 Forest Hill, 90 Vaughan, 126 Christie, 512 St. Clair (buses), 512 St. Clair (streetcars).

7A Bathurst: Friday, March 28 will be the last day until fall that TTC buses operate on this branch of the route between Wilson and St. Clair West Stations. Buses operate along this branch during Monday-to-Friday rush hours. The TTC will resume service along the 7A branch when the City and TTC have completed construction along Bathurst Street.

7B and 7C Bathurst: Starting Sunday, March 30, the TTC will split the 7 Bathurst route into two services, seven days a week. Buses operating on the 7B branch will operate between St. Clair West and Bathurst Station. Buses operating on the 7C branch will operate between Steeles Avenue West and St. Clair West Station. The TTC is splitting the route to maintain schedules and frequency of service while it rebuilds the streetcar tracks along Bathurst Station south of St. Clair Avenue West.

126 Christie: Starting Monday, March 30, buses will start and end their trips at a temporary stop inside St. Clair West Station. Southbound buses will operate westward along the streetcar right of way to just beyond Vaughan Road, where they’ll operate along the curb lane before turning southward along Christie Street to Christie Station. Northbound buses will reverse this routing.

33 Forest Hill: Starting Monday, March 31, buses will start and end their trips at a temporary stop inside St. Clair West Station. Buses will no longer loop on the street along St. Clair Avenue West, Bathurst Street, Tichester Road and Heath Street West.

512 St. Clair (buses): Buses continue to operate between Keele Street (Gunn’s Loop at Gunn’s Road and St. Clair Avenue West, west of Keele) and St. Clair West Station.

512 St. Clair (streetcars): Starting Sunday, March 30, streetcars operate only between St. Clair West and St. Clair Stations. They no longer operate westward as far as Oakwood Avenue.

90 Vaughan: Buses continue to start and end their trips at their regular stop inside St. Clair West Station.

A reader of Steve Munro’s website reports that reconstructing the streetcar tracks along Bathurst Street will result in temporarily isolating the streetcars operating on the 512 St. Clair route from their home base at the Roncesvalles Carhouse. He says that when the Bathurst construction begins, the TTC will operate just seven streetcars at a three-minute frequency between St. Clair West and St. Clair Stations until late evenings, when buses will replace the streetcars. The TTC will then have to store the streetcars overnight somewhere along the route.

Munro’s reader doesn’t speculate where the TTC would store the cars — perhaps inside the two subway stations?
